Apple’s new iPhone Duo is officially its thinnest iPhone ever, but only when the foldable is fully open. At 5.2mm thick when unfolded, the iPhone Duo is 0.4mm thinner than the 5.6mm iPhone Air.
The difference is small, but it gives Apple’s first foldable phone the edge in thickness when compared with its thinnest conventional iPhone. The Duo becomes significantly thicker once it is folded for everyday carrying.
How Thin Is The iPhone Duo?
The iPhone Duo measures 5.2mm when unfolded, putting it just above the 5.1mm thickness of Apple’s 13-inch iPad Pro. That makes the iPad Pro the company’s thinnest device overall, while the Duo takes the title for the thinnest iPhone.
Earlier reports suggested Apple’s foldable could reach around 4.5mm when open, but the final design is 0.7mm thicker than those estimates.
When folded, the iPhone Duo measures 11.3mm thick. That’s considerably thicker than Apple’s Pro Max models, which measure 8.75mm.
The thickness difference is therefore more complicated than Apple’s thinnest-iPhone claim suggests. The Duo is exceptionally thin when open, but users will carry it in its thicker folded form most of the time.
The iPhone Duo Is Apple’s Heaviest iPhone
The iPhone Duo also sets another record, but in the opposite direction. At 254 grams, it is Apple’s heaviest iPhone yet.
That puts it 5 grams above the 249-gram iPhone 18 Pro Max. The additional weight comes alongside the foldable design and its two-display configuration.
The iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch inner display when unfolded and a 5.4-inch outer display when closed. Its short, wide design gives users a large screen when the phone is open while keeping a conventional phone-sized display available on the outside.
Preorders for the iPhone Duo begin October 16, with the phone launching October 23.
