The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Re-run blackra1n if the device doesn't reboot.
You keep saying that, but people keep having the same problem. Re-running blackra1n.exe simply results in the screen saying that its waiting for an iPhone/iPod to be connected. Of course disconnecting the iPod fully, waiting a few seconds, and reconnecting it does NOT resolve any issue.
I am having a hard time Jail breaking my Touch 2g 16 gb
Maybe i have to Run as Administrator along with running in XP compatibility mode ?
( I Have tried both 32 and 64 Bit computers, both windows vista )

This is what the developer has told for the iPod Touch 3G jailbreak. It worked fine for me and other people though so I'm trying to help those who are unable to jailbreak with all I can.

yes – I've repeated the bloody process 6 times! Restore ipod, run blackra1n, doesnt reboot. Then the same again. 6 times! What do i do?????
i have just run this on my wifes 3.1.2 8gb 3g, i am running windows 7 x64 rtm build 7600 (if this info helps anyone) and all i did was run blackra1n as admin then (no compatability mode) all was good, make sure itunes is not open before you try running it might conflict with the app (possibly), hope this info is helpfull to someone

I got Blackra1n installed smoothly on my ipod touch 3rd gen but I can not get Cydia/Rock and/or Icy install with the Blackra1n icon. It giving me the error below even though the safari and youtube are working with my wifi.

great guide, im having some problems though
i have an iphone 3g on 3.1.2
on windows vista
the problem is that when i run blackra1n
it goes all good till it goes to recovery mode
where it does not turn to the picture of the guy,
rather it is the apple connect to itunes logo
ive tried to do different things ( run as administrator, change compatibility ect.)
but no luck?
any suggestions/solutions?

Useless answer. If the phone bricks out to DFU then blackra1n hangs at the first screen waiting for th phone to be conected.
It's s non-recoverable DFU state (unlike the redsn0w issues) which requires restoration.
Re-running blackra1n is fucking useless, and geogay is a script kiddie with a god complex
Whenever I try this, I hit “make it rain” then Itunes opens up and says it “has detected an Ipod in recover mode. You must restor this Ipod before it can be used with Itunes.” After restoring it and what not, I try to run Blackrain again and same thing occurs. Any1 know whats up?

Nope, i have the Touch 8GB 3.1.2 and i have tried everything:
-Disable Auto Syncing in
-Compatibility Mode (Running Vista)
-Killing all ITunes processes in Task Manager
-Even running it on XP Professional

ok so i tried to jailbreak my ipod but it wouldnt work (keep in mind im using vista) so i tried to NOT run it in compatibility mode and it worked fine
and by the way do NOT and i repeat do NOT install icy only install rock and cydia bcuz icy will corrupt an important file that i cannot name right now and besides icy is useless
