The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

but if your ipod doesnt reboot close blackra1n and run it again and if it doesnt work at all place blackra1n in your C: drive and run it from there and do the same if it doesnt reboot

everything went fine and i was so happy until i was installing winterboard, it installed winterboard and said to reboot i clicked the reboot button and it sent me to recovery mode! i tried it like three times and the same thing happened, cydia works fine and everything but when i try to install winterboard it sends me to recovery mode and i have to recover and lose everything!! what can i do?

Purplera1n unlocks iphones. This means it stops them from only being able to use a certian sevice provider.
So this is useless for an IPT.
Got it finally, that is I put my itouch back to normal. Now going to try again install this thing.
I had to unload itunes and reinstall the newest version (ran in XP mode on Vista) and then itunes restored everything.
Do a ctrl+alt+delete and end all processes like itunes, ituneshelper, ipodservice.
I have problem on my New-Ipod Touch 2g 8g Fw 3.1.1 which released with Ipod Touch 3G 32GB and 64Gb.
I wait for rebooting sooo longggg and my itouch not responding and cannot turn on.
I have to restore again by clicking on the restore button in itune.Then It upgrade my itouch to Fw 3.1.2! I try to downgrade back to 3.1.1 but it failed.
What should I do!?

Hey guys. I need your help please.. I installed blackra1n a few hours ago on my ipt 2G. When I switched on my ipt, an itunes screen appeared asking to connect to itunes. Does anyone know why?It worked perfectly after rebooting but not after I switched off and on again..Does that mean that I have to connect my ipt to a computer and run blackrain each time before i can use it?

This junk does not and will not work with the following
IPhone 3g 8GB/16GB/32GB Models.
Repeated attempts at this will screw up software embedded into the phone its self required to handle itunes – you will get errors trying to restore the phone back to original firmware.

Wait for some competent hax0rs to develop a proper program that doesn't whimsicly work in 30 seconds.
