The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

All I did for my Jailbroken 2G Touch 3.1 was
1. On my MacBook, in iTunes 9, downloaded and updated (not restore) to 3.1.2
2. Restarted in BootCamp Win XP SP3
3. Plug in Touch
4. Start blackrain
5. I got a black/blank screen after the DFU plug screen
6. Closed and reran blackrain
7 Then I saw the picture.
8. Be patient and wait after this.
i just jailbroke my 3gs 16 gig on my vista computer and it worked perfectly and extremly fast!!!!! very nice job. also i DID NOT use xp mode just put black ra1n in the c drive and launch as admin.
Can I use blackra1n to jailbreak my first gen ipod touch?
As some others have said, running in compatibility mode didn't work for me either. I just turned off compatibility and it worked. Quick and easy. Using vista
myne shows his picture then just never reboots :(? i had to restore it for it to turn on then i treid again nd it still didnt work someone please hlep mee

I was hella scared when it happened to me, everything was blackout and i was hella panic, but finally, i just simply plug the usb cord back to the touch, then restored and everything came back to normal. Thank god it came back up and running. After i restored, and try blackra1n again, it happened again just like the first time, so after i restored again, i've stopped the processed of jailbreaking it thru blackra1n, nevertheless, my iphone 3g works perfectly find thru the whole blackra1n process. does anyone knw when the MC jailbeak will be ot i wantt mine jailbroken and i know have a ipod touch 8 gig 3rd gen wth version 3.1.2 and its an MC version :L please reply
iPod Touch 2nd Gen Upgraded to 3.1.2 – Jailbreak with blackra1n : My experience was different than anyone elses so far so I thought I'd give you all my example to maybe help out if you run into the same problems. First, I upgraded to 3.1.2 in iTunes, after backing up everything , I also used Cydia's back up programs as well. Next I made it rain! And boy did it. It just stuck on running, and instead of the picture of that sexy boy I got the picture saying I needed to plug my iPod Touch into iTunes. So I waited around for about 20 minutes. Obviously realizing nothing is happening, I unplug my iPod Touch, close blackra1n and start over. This time it was very different. I left the Ipod touch on, then ran blackra1n. About a tenth of a second later, i briefly saw George's picture on my Ipod and it was done, after a quick reboot. So i turned it back on, and I finally had the teardrop thing icon in my screens. I clicked that, got an error of some kind, just ignored it and went ahead and started installing Cydia, it did a reorganize and closed, i started it back up with the Cydia icon and it was like magic.
So everything works very simply. If you get stuck somewhere, just start over. I've got everything back perfectly. I will give this boy some money, and maybe if he'd like to go on a date, or just maybe I'll put out a little for him. Thank you cute boy.

mine also…already try to restore…but itunes keep saying that the firmware is not compatible….

I'm new to this jailbreaking thing, and just got a 3G Touch, 32gb. I want to jailbreak, but I don't know how great I feel about doing this with a tethered break. Is there any guess you might have as to if / when we might see a 3G untethered break?
It just bothers me knowing I would have to restart the thing at my computer all the time…
Instructions:

Hold the Home button
Then the Geohot logo appear
Wait for the phone to reboot.
