The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

OK…. so heres the deal, need some help hoping you guys can offer some answers… Back when the only way to hack your ipod touch 2g 8gig was to winpwn it, i tried that. Unsuccessfully… I always had a problem with the dfu and/or recovery mode, or what not… after countless attempts, i gave up. Now that this *easy* way is out, i decided to give it another shot, low and behold, blackra1n gets stuck on the entering recovery mode. I have gone through all of the other attempts and steps and everything, including holding home, putting it in C:/ EVERYTHING, including the list that the guy put up for the 8,000 questions. I am currently running vista 64 bit, and have tried it on this computer, and my old desktop running xp, no go on either… Both times it gets to the point where it puts the ipod into the plug in to restore screen, and goes no further. Anyone available to help????
I should probably also state, that i have restored it to 3.1.2 after every attempt and getting stuck.
Ok, nevermind, i got the damn thing working just in time for my ipod to still have life. I ran it without using compatibility mode, and it worked flawlessly.
Ok bro, i tried this and verything was going right, and when it was waiting for my itouch to reboot, i was the picture of george, but it then turned off and i couldnt get it to turn back on. Itunes recognized there was an itouch docked but i lost all of my apps and information. What the hell happened?
I had issues trying to run this on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 with my iPhone 3G. I had made the mistake of running it from a download folder I have on another shared network drive about 100 times. Everytime I tried to run it, Blackra1n would say running, but the iPhone would show the plug into iTunes screen. So I tried dumping the .exe file on the root of the c: drive, rebooting the iPhone, and rerun Blackra1n. It ran perfectly there without turning on any compatibility options.

I just blackra1n my ipod touch 3rd generation, it works, but when i shut down my ipod and turn it back on, it shows the plug into itunes screen, the only way to make it work again, is to re-run blackra1n again, is that a way to fix this problem? help.

yes you need internet to download cydia, you need internet to download almost anything

I have heard that the jailbreak for the ipod touch 3g is unthetered wich means that if you shut it down it isn't jailbroken anymore.

HI, I have an iphone 3gs 32gb and I wanna try the jailbreak but I don't want to screw my phone so I have a couple questions:
1. Will I be able to make calls from it and use the 3g network from at&t ?
2. If I restore it to normal… does some one will notice it was jailbroken?
3. When it's hacked, do I have to “unlock” it to use on the at&t network?
4. If i restore it after the hack, will i have my normal service back and the 3g network?
5. This works for 3.1.2 only?
6. Any difference if i do it on mac or xp?
