The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Im not getting the Blackra1n application.. it goes back photo appears and then reboots.. but no app :( any ideas?

All i see is the USB > iTunes thing.
My iTunes is telling me to restore, blackra1n is saying entering recovery.
What do i do?

I have a 2g version 3.1.2 itouch n i did this.
everything worked up to the part wen the task helper said done, wait for reboot.
My screen stayed black, n now the itouch isnt even turninq on.

that happened to me the first time jailbreaking on 2.2.1 and i just held the off button and the home button then it reboted it was on the the screeen was not responding untill ii held the buttons

Im in need of some help, Im using a ipodtouch 64gb vista and i granted all permissions that i could ect. stopped all itunes applications and everything, put blackra1n in my local disk and it just stays on the part where it puts my ipod into recovery mode, any suggestions? im using vista
It is tethered so you will need to plug it in and “make it ra1n” every time that you restart your device in order to boot it. Blackra1n is great but seems more like a temp fix till dev team can develop a stable one.
can you use this jailbreak if you have the iPod touch 3rd gen but havent updated to 3.1.2???
ive got ipod touch 2g 3.1.2 firmware but every time i try this jailbreak it keeps comming up with the itunes logo but not geohots and if geohots logo does come up it doesnt reboot wat the hell is happening!!
is it worth having it jailbroken since it will be tethered
can you connect to itunes after you jailbreak?
Also when you hook your ipod itouch into the comp and itunes opens do you just shut it or let itunes sync it?

OK i finnaly figured everything out.
To do this hack first you must know some things about your IPod/IPhone.
1. ~YOUR MODEL NUMBER~
On your i device got to 'Settings>General>About', scroll down untill you find Model. If the first two digits begin with MB keep following me if it starts with MC… Get lost because apparently Geo Hotz hates you!
2.~YOUR DEVICE~
This hack will work for IPhone 1G, 2G and 3G. For IPod Touch its 1G and 2G.
If you have IPhone 3Gs or IPod Touch 3G you are not able to do this.
Why?
3Gs: This will upgrade your Baseband and screw up you Phone.
IPT: It will teather your ipod. When you run out of batterie or turn your IPod off you will have to ra1n it again. No know fix (That i know).
Now:
-Disable Auto Syncing in
-Kill all ITunes processes in Task Manager. (ITunesHelper, IPodservice, ect..)
-Plug in your IPod and press Make it ra1n.
-Geo Hotz will appear on your device and it will then reload.
Done.
Believe me this works.
I have hacked a total of 11 IPods and Phones.
For those of you with MC try to downgrade to 3.0, redsn0w it then use a custom .ISPW to get a hacked 3.1.1 or 3.1.2!
Or just wait for redsn0w to update to 3.1.2.
