The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Hi, for the untethered jailbreak for the ipod touch 3g. When i turn it on and rejailbreak it with blackra1n on my computer after the battery ran out of i turned it off, do i lose all my data and stuff (restore) or what.
No, you lose nothing at all. It is only the shit and bothering of re-blackra1n it. But well it takes a few minutes at the end.
What I hate is that legal apps from the appstore don't work once JB'd. I wait for a new blackra1n for the MC models, otherwise I prefer not JBing it.
What do you mean you can't use legal apps? anyways, if i JB it with blackra1n and i reJB it every morning, what harm will it do to my ipod touch 3g in long term. in ur opinion, shuld i JB my ipod touch with blackra1n? thanls a lot m8

it doent work on mine it goes to the usb plug to itunes then on the computer it sayseither running or done,wait for reboot and it doesnt do anything else

I have done exactly what you've said and my model # starts with MB, I do not get the picture and the program doesn't do anything but say 'running' for over an hour… can you help? Please?
I have tried this 2 times and all i get is the itunes and usb cable on the itouch. It will reboot with itunes but I cannot get it ti jailbreak.

Hey guys, i was finally able to jb my ipod touch 3g MC model, what i did was
Move blackra1n to C:
Close itunes and ituneshelper in task manager
Make sure ipod is disconnected and turned off
Click make it rain
Hold power and home button at the same time
Release power button as soon as the apple logo appears while still holding down the home button
Keep holding the home button and plug in the usb cable
It should appear the image of geohot

Yea that shud still work, when u click make it rain, u can see the icon changes to waiting for phone…so the moment u connect the cable, it automatically starts to jb.Forgot to mention that once it says done…wait to reboot,make sure u quickly close blackra1n or youll be left with a black screen on ur ipod

So…
disconnect ipod from pc,
Turn the ipod off..
close all itunes stuff,
press make it ra1n,
hold power and home button,
when u see apple icon release the power button and hold home.
then geohot shows.
when it says done close blackra1n fast before the ipod gives a blackscreen?
and then its done? and when can i release the home button then?
