The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

I was very concerned about using this software, somehow gathered my guts to finally give it a try, surprisingly Redsnow wouldn’t work for my iPod touch (Ver 3.1.2), but Black Rav1n changed everything, thanks a lot Imran for all that info you have shared, my iPod is up and running now, smooth as ever, it took me 10 seconds to do the whole job! Appreciate it! Will definitely recommend.
The Blackrain doesnt work at all for 3G Ipod Models starting with MC. After searching a lot on internet, I have found that the Apple guys have used so strong security in their current MC models that so far no one on earth has been able to jailbreak them. We have to wait for sometime till some reall super intelligent guy comes up with a solution
I have just got an itouch 64 gb 3rd generation model……….
I did upgrade my firmware as written here….
also ran the blackra1n application keeping the itouch connected….
but the blackra1n runs and only shows “waiting for phone” message….
i dont know how to unlock my touch now……
pls…any help will be great….please….

Dont worry. Apple latest 3G models cant be jailbroken by Blackrain. I also tried a lot only to see my Ipod Touch dead and black. Just connect ur dead Ipod to ur computer. Make sure you have afast internet connection. Start Itunes and click on Restore button. Wait as Itunes downloads latest firmware and resets your Ipod Touch. Process will take anywhere between 30-60 minutes. Finally ur Ipod will be up and running again

I'm trying to jailbrake an iphone 3g 3.1.2 for about 10 hours. I've tried everything (and i mean that) : all kinds of booting , holding home button when u get the runnning message, c:/ root, administrator , several restarts and restores, etc. Trust me , i'm not a n00b , and I unlocked several older versions of iphone.
Anyone can help telling wht to do, 'cause my next thought is to reinstall my vista 32 home premium, with an windowes 7 or vista professional. But it's again a lot of time :(

Dont worry. First of all keep it in mind that 3rd Gen Ipod Touch Models cant be jailbreaked with Blackrain because these are latest models and apparently Apple has included very strong security measures in their 3G Ipod Touch Models. Same happened with me too. Ran jailbreak to get a totally black Ipod.
Simply connect your Ipod to your computer and start Itunes. Make sure you are connected to Internet with a fast connection and Click on the button restore. The Itunes will connect to Apple Ipod servers and will download the frimware and do the resetting. The wholle process will take anywhere between 30 minutes to one hour and your Ipod Touch will be up and again. Dont Jailbreak with Blackrain. Wait for a month or two till someone on earth is intelligent enough to break the security of apple and comes up with a 3G Solution

hi, im a new begginer in jailbreaking my ipod touch, so after i downloaded it to my ipod touch, i followed the instruction by downloading i was wondering where can i download full version paid apps in cydia? is there any instructions to downloading? and if its possible to additionally download cydia with rock and icy?
if you plug ur ipod in and then go to itunes it will say that there is an ipod in recovery mode
click on the ipod on the left of the screen and itunes will direct you from there

hey. i hav looked into jailbreak quite alot and this way seemed far the best. i tried it though and everything went well until it came to rebooting. it turns off but doesnt come back on and the only way to get it working again is to go into dfu mode or whatever its called. then i have to restore it from itunes. I think there is another way to turn it on but i dont know how or if im doing something wrong

i just use blackra1n to jailbreak my ipod touch 2g(3.1.2). after click on make it rain than wait for reboot its stuck and wont turn on and screen blank.. but i plug into my computer its pop up an itunes and in recovery mode. and cant restore it. someone plzzzz help me T_T
