The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Ok can u like give me step by step instructions as im using 3.1 firmware which came pre-installed instead of 3.1.2. Should I use pwnage tool/redsnow/ultrasnow first? Or should I go straight to activating the Blackra1n app? Thanx.
Doesn't work here. After the “Enjoy your jailbroken iphone” message, it keeps waiting for reboot. I manually reboot it but still doesn't work. iPod Touch 1G here. Any solution?

That upgrade is for iPod Touch. Do not upgrade is for iPhone users.
Itunes shouldn't be running when with blackra1n running. You should try restoring your ipod touch firmware to the default 3.1.2 without running blackra1n and then try the jailbreak again.
Try a restore via iTunes and repeat the process again.
It should work because according to George who created this tool, it works for all the iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Let me know how it goes for you.

i try putting a theme on my ipod touch with cydia and a blackra1n jailbreak and it tells me to reboot and i did and it went to the connect to itunes thingy how do i get it to work?
It should work. But why not upgrade to the latest one i.e. 3.1.2 and then jailbreak?
Some people have been reporting this issue. You could try restoring the firmware and try blackra1n again. It worked for me in the first try while I wrote this guide. I had wi-fi disabled by the way.

I did receive a message saying that my ipod touch has been jailbroken but I don't see any new icons on my screen? I am using ipod touch 2nd generation firmware 3.1.2. Please help.
How long should this take? It's been stuck at the entering recovery mode for about 1 1/2 hours now…
It took around a minute or 2 on my iPod Touch 2G.
You should try doing a restore and then jailbreak again. That sometimes helps.
Do I need to be connected to the Internet via wi-fi?
I don't think so. I did it without connected via wi-fi I think.
