The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

what should I do if it has the little circle going around and it says to connetct to Itunes
okayy i got everything downloaded and good to go. but now is like itunes stuff free to cause not that it is jailbroken?
after i install black ra1n i try to down load cydia but it says no internet connection so i try to download icy it works but i still cant download cydia plz help me??? i restoring it and doing the prosecc over again but plz if it happens again plz tell me why
PROBLEM !!! the jailbreak itself works fine (2 restarts and you're done), but as soon as i power off my ipod touch (32gb 3rd gen) once it's back on it shows me the sync with itunes screen so i have to restore.. on one forum someone said that you can avoid restore by “starting” the ipod with blackra1n again, but that's not very practical.. anyone else have this problem? any fixes?

if your running vista YOU DONT NEED TO RUN IN XP COMPATIBILITY!
my bad! didn’t think it through… it’s a *tethered* jailbreak.. so if you power down or your battery dies on ya you get the “sync with itunes” screen and have to reboot the pod with blackra1n.. cydia and all your other apps will still be there… but all in all, not too practical if you don’t have constant access to a pc.. it’s a cool achievement, but i’ll wait for an untethered break if, that is, someone manages to master the boot of this thing.

Gosh….Jailbreak failed when my iphone(3gs 3.1.2 come with) cant reboot itself. After i restore my phone blackra!n app was there but it just couldn't be open!!! Its like half jailbreak and my iphone sometimes just turn black and i need to restore everytime (with the blackrain app still on it)HELP! how do i get rid of blackra!n and restore everything to normal.Thanks guys
edit: so i found out my model is MC which blackra!n wont work on. So how do i restore everything to normal with the blackra!n app gone after the restore.
Hold the power button and the main button down at the same time.
I thought they said you can't do this with a 3rd gen? I'm pretty positive that this was explained on multiple levels.
Without running it in compatability mode it ran through really fast without showing the blackra1n pic. It just rebooted and there was no jailbreak. After putting it in compatablility mode it is frozen in recovery. I'll try it again. I guess.
hey is this still tethered for ipod touch 3g if so when are they coming out with a unthethered jailbreak for ipod touch 3g because it gets anoying one i accidently turn it off or sumtin

I just jailed breaked my 8gb mc 3rd generation. Just keep trying. For some reason it works after lots and lots of tries.
how do u know wats ur gen cause i dont know mine if its gen3 or 2 the model no is MC
something happened..as soon as i clicked “make it ra1n” my ipod went into recovery mode and everything got erased…what do i do??

– Download and keep BlackRa1n.exe in your C:
– Right click on BlackRa1n.exe –> properties–> Compatibility -> check the run this program in compatibility mode for… XP and also check the Run as admin option.
– Upgrade to 3.1.2 and restore with your latest back up(sync contacts etc etc)
– Close itunes
– Go to control panel (classic view)-> User Accounts ->Manage another account -> Create new account -> Select Administrator option and create a new account
– Click on the newly created account and select Create password to set a password.
– Shutdown your system
– Boot your system
– Login with your new admin account
– Let the windows complete setting up your desktop
– Now connect your iphone via usb
– Right click on BlackRa1n.exe and run as admin ( though already set to run as admin in properties, just making sure.. this is what i did)
– Click on 'Make it Ra1n”
– Sit back and relax.. (you have to click on a lengthy message from BlacRa1n during the process to say 'OK' ) GeoHot screen will appear and reboot ur iphone.. after that its all simple.. check ur iphone for blackra1n app..
The blackra1n executable process hangs when iTunes detects the iphone in dfu mode and will open trying to restore it. But during the last step itunes will try to open.. but because of new user, it will get stuck on license agreement page..
