The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Find a source (because i dont remember it) and install, Installous, its basically an app store but everything is free.
Reminder: Not every app is available, only cracked apps are. But 90% of the apps are in the database so check it out!

i tries to jail break thru blackra 1n but after i installed the cydia my ipod is not starting.
i've had my ipod jailbroken before when it was verison 3.00 n then i updated to 3.1.1 n it erased me cydia but i still have all of my apps and i was just wondering if after installin cydia my apps would start working again or would i have to do everything i did before all over again
well i dont know if i got it jailbroken i have an ipod touch 2g so i dowloaded blackra1n and it said it jailbroke your IPHONE??? the wierd thing is i have the blackra1n app thing in my ipod but i cant use it yet(no wireless internet connection). also as for doing stuff like going to the compatibility screen i didnt do and the i recovered my ipod cause i had to for some reason but i have the blackra1n app so idk if its jailbroken

Each time I have jailbroken this thing, I try to install apps from any of the three programs, and it is then that my iPod decides it does not want to work anymore… So each time I’ve jailbroken it, I end up having to do a full restore. has anybody else had this issue, or does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks.

i try this a many time but it no work. it take ipod to screen with plug and itunes picture. many time. please help with my problem. maybe i help you also. ASAP!!

Works fine, but unable to use it, as I have no wireless internet connection, so totally useless to me, why can't you download cydia via a PC and install it that way, or include it in Blackra1n?
mine showed the pic but instead of rebooting it told me i had to reconnec to itunes
I think i know what is the problem here. Like you i have encountered the same problem as well. I guess we are using the same model of Iphone 3Gs starting with “MC”.
Apparently, Blackrain application only works with “MB” version of the model.

When i go into the blackra1n app it says that there is an invalid argument and so i cant get cydia or rock, any advice?
