The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

If you are already using 3.1.2, just connect your iPod, run the blackra1n app and let it do its work. It should work smoothly. I jailbroke my iPod Touch in the first go with blackra1n. You don't need purplera1n for this.
Reading other forums I have read that u need to have some tool called pwnage tool/redsnow to unlock those firmwares on 3.1.2 but its not released yet. I have got the firmware 3.0.1 and I am wondering whether I have to use this blackra1n hack.
If you want to unlock your iPhone, you should use Ultrasnow. But it won't work if you upgrade to 3.1.2 firmware and could cause issues down the road when unlocking since the baseband would be upgraded. You should wait for an updated version of Ultrasnow.
OK, I Jailbreaked my Iphone 3gs with BlackRa1n but now need to onlock it. It is running 3.1 (7C144), modem firmware 05.11.07

Hmm i use a ipt3g with firmware 3.1.2 and it didn't work.
With windows xp/vista and windows 7.
After rebooting it gets stuck at dfu mode…

You'll have to wait for an unlock tool because currently none works with iPhone firmware 3.1.2

Ok can u like give me step by step instructions as im using 3.1 firmware which came pre-installed instead of 3.1.2. Should I use pwnage tool/redsnow/ultrasnow first? Or should I go straight to activating the Blackra1n app? Thanx.
Doesn't work here. After the “Enjoy your jailbroken iphone” message, it keeps waiting for reboot. I manually reboot it but still doesn't work. iPod Touch 1G here. Any solution?
Whenever I try this, I hit “make it rain” then Itunes opens up and says it “has detected an Ipod in recover mode. You must restor this Ipod before it can be used with Itunes.” After restoring it and what not, I try to run Blackrain again and same thing occurs. Any1 know whats up?
