The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

you hav to downgrade it. ive tried and tried but doesnt work for 3.1.3 itouch 3G 8G. its realy easy to downgrade.

Do I downgrade my iPod touch to 3.1.2 I had that before I just want it back and I can use that blackrain I’m downloading the iPod touch 3.1.2 do I put it in Dfu or without the dfu and just open up iTunes and hold shift and restore and find your iPods firmware

I followed the procedure, installed Cydia, un-installed blackra1n and when i reboot, my ipod touch gets stuck in the recovery mode !!
I tried few times but again the same happens.

i did your steps when i says make it rain i clicked it an says running well its been running for bout 15 mins an the screen says running how long does this take or did i screw it up???
3.1.2 Broken and sprung, 5 minutes. Thanks. Didnt have to open itunes or anything just download, open Blackrain, connect ipod, click on Blackrain, and afterward choose options. EASY.
why when my ipod die all my music and apps i downloaded delete.
If it didn’t work, make sure your ipod touch is running the correct software of firmware. For it to work is MUST be running on version 3.1.2. If it is older or newer than this you must download version 3.1.2 on the internet because it is not available through iTunes anymore (due to newer versions) Hope that helps some of you. If it didn’t make sure you downloaded it correctly
Just tried te jailbreak and it’s been working for 25 minutes. How long does it take. I downgraded to 3.1.2 and put black ra1n in windows xp mode cuz i’m running windows vista.

ok i downloaded the blackra1n file and the 3.1.2 restore file so i could downgrade it. and wen i went to do that it sed it wasnt compatiable. i downloaded the rite file. anyone no how to help with this. i got the iopod touch 3rd gen 8gb with 3.1.3 on it.
the icon does not pop up on mine what should i do

wow it only took me 30 seconds to jailbrake, ps if your model starts with MB it will work, if it starts with MC it wont. i really recommened it
