The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G, and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G.
Warning 3G and 3GS unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. You can also try Rock or Icy.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.
blackra1n isn’t available for OS X yet but expect it soon. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below.
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

i have a ipod touch 3g i jailbreak it and i see geohot pictures and it says wait for reboot.. and i wait… it turns off but doesn't turn back on… what do i do?
Did you try turning it on manually?

I have followed instructions carefully and no luck. I have restored and tried again. I am having the same issue as Yatin had, yet he did not say what it was that he did to get it to work. Do I need to completely shut iTunes down with msconfig? or just exit and then run blackra1n? When it says that ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored, is that normal?
Just exit iTunes and run blackra1n. blackra1n automatically puts it in recovery mode while jailbreaking so that's normal.

yeah i get the same problem it gets stuck on the blank screen after geohot face appears. Think this program dosnt work for the ipod 3g 8gb must be a fake.
are you on pot? do you realize how many people use this? and how many have 8gb? this works almost flawlessly. if something is wrong its either by you giving up or you messing up.
Am i right to think that when itunes opens as soon as blackra1n says it will be jailbreak after reboot is the conflict? If I am …how do I get itunes to stop reading the ipod until it reboots? I am not able to get past this point. The screen stays blank and when I reboot myself, my touch is normal with no icon.

Hi, I have an IPhone 3GS, i installed the 3.1.2 firmware and followed the process, but my iphone gets stuck in the recovery mode with itunes logo and the plug image, blackra1n stucks with the message “entering recovery…” and nothing happens, please help me solve this problem, i've tried to launch blackra1n using admin mode, but didn't work, please…

yes i tried no luck… and it says its still in recovery mode for itunes… so i restored it and tried 3 more times and no luck
okay i downloaded it and plugged my ipod in and opened blackra1n and i clicked make it ra1n and now it says “waiting for phone” and it wont do anything. and now my ipod displays the usb itunes thing on the screen. what do i do? what did i do wrong?
