Apple Raises MacBook Neo Education Price to $649

Apple raised the MacBook Neo education price to $649 for the 256GB model on its US education store, up from $599. The 512GB model with Touch ID went from $699 to $749. Students and teachers now save $50 on either configuration, half of the $100 discount they got at launch in March.

The standard store still charges $699 for the 256GB model, so the $649 education price as of October 28 is $50 lower. Apple has not announced the change or given a reason, though it blamed rising memory and storage costs when it raised prices across its products in June. Education pricing covers higher education students, parents and teachers, and Apple may ask for proof of eligibility at checkout.

MacBook Neo education price

MacBook Neo education price is up $150 since March

The MacBook Neo started at $499 on the education store in March and rose to $599 on June 25. It now costs $649, which is 30 percent above its launch price and the second increase since March. The 512GB model went from $599 to $699 to $749, a 25 percent increase.

The standard price rose $100 in June and has held at $699 since. That is why the education discount fell from $100 to $50, which on the 256GB model cuts the saving from 17 percent of the retail price to 7 percent. The step up to 512GB with Touch ID costs $100 on both stores.

The MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini keep a $100 education discount, so only the iMac matches the MacBook Neo’s $50. The MacBook Air costs $1,199 on the education store against $1,299 at retail, the MacBook Pro $1,899 against $1,999 and the Mac mini $799 against $899.

The 13-inch MacBook Air rose $200 on education pricing, or 20 percent, from $999 in March to $1,199. That leaves the MacBook Neo $550 below it, up from a $500 gap at launch.

Apple Card installments put it at $54.08 a month

The 256GB MacBook Neo is $54.08 a month for 12 months on the education store with Apple Card Monthly Installments, at 0% APR. Apple Card also returns 3% Daily Cash on the purchase. Spread over 12 months, the $50 increase adds about $4 a month.

Trade-in credit can go toward the order too. Apple raised its Mac trade-in values on October 26, with the MacBook Air now worth up to $795 and the MacBook Pro up to $1,435. Both are maximums, and the final offer depends on the condition and configuration of the device.

MacBook Neo 2 is reportedly due in 2027

The MacBook Neo 2 is reportedly planned for the first half of 2027 with an A19 Pro chip and 12GB of unified memory, up from the A18 Pro chip and 8GB in the current model. The extra memory would let it run the larger on-device Apple Intelligence model, which the 8GB MacBook Neo cannot run.

Apple has not announced the MacBook Neo 2 or said what it will cost. The current MacBook Neo keeps the same A18 Pro chip, 8GB of unified memory and 13-inch display on every configuration, so none of that changed with the price increase.
