Samsung Display is the largest supplier of OLED panels for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models

Samsung Display supplies the largest share of OLED display panels to Apple for the latest iPhone 14 series. The tech giant OLED display supply chain for iPhones also includes LG Display, and BOE but Samsung provides display panels for all iPhone 14 models and captures the largest share of its business.

Samsung Display ships more than 70% of OLED panels to Apple for the iPhone 14 series

Although Apple uses OLED panels across the iPhone 14 series, it uses low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT) OLED for the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models and the advanced low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) TFT OLED panels for iPhone 14 Pro models.

Thus, the company has a diverse display supply chain for iPhone 14 series which is dominated by Samsung. In October, the company approved LG Display’s LTPO OLED panels for iPhone 14 Pro models and BOE was given the green signal produces LTPS OLED panels for standard iPhone 14 models after the production controversy.

The Elec writes:

Samsung Display is supply over 70% of the OLED panels that Apple use for its iPhone 14 series, TheElec has learned.

This is thanks to the company’s already dominant position helped by setbacks of rivals LG Display and BOE, sources said.

The tech giant is expected to use more than 120 million units of OLED panels for the iPhone 14 series. Reportedly, Samsung Display will ship mid-80 million units out of the total and 60 million units will be of LTPO OLED panels for iPhone 14 Pro models.

Sources claim LG Display would ship mid-20 million and BOE will ship up to 6 million units.

Out of the mid-80 million units it will ship, Samsung Display expects over 60 million units to come from the 6.1-inch Pro and 6.7-inch Pro Max models as these are selling better than expected.

LG Display also faced problems in production for the OLED panels aimed at Pro Max, allowing Samsung Display to gain more shares early on.

BOE likely expected more shipments but the regular iPhone 14 model is selling less than expected.

DisplayMate has also awarded iPhone 14 Pro Max the “Best Smartphone Display Award” for its high display performance. The South Korean display manufacturer can use that award as a feather in its cap.
