Midnight Fridge Is a Memory Game That Opens with the iPhone Duo Fold

Midnight Fridge is a $2.99 memory game for the iPhone Duo where the items to remember sit on the outer display and unfolding the phone opens the fridge. It also runs on any iPhone with iOS 18 or later, so a foldable is optional.

Developer Paper Code Adrianna Błaszczyńska released the iPhone-only game on the App Store, with rounds that run from one item to twenty across six fridges. It joins other iPhone Duo apps that use the fold as a control, such as Orisuji, a paper maze you solve by folding the phone.

Unfolding the iPhone Duo opens the Midnight Fridge door

On an iPhone Duo, the outer display is the fridge door, and the magnets on it show what you came for. Unfold the phone to look inside and pick your items, then fold it shut to see how you did. The hinge handles the opening and closing, so the game needs no buttons for either.

The game reads how far the phone is open to know when the door opens and shuts. The developer says that reading is used only in the moment and is never stored or sent anywhere.

Other iPhones get the same game with a handle. You hold the phone upright and pull the handle to swing the door open onto one tall fridge.

Rounds grow from one item to twenty across six fridges

Each round puts a fresh set of magnets on the door. You remember them, open the fridge and find exactly those items among everything else inside. The first round has one item, the next has two, and the count keeps rising up to twenty.

You have three lives. Missing an item or picking the wrong one costs a life, and you try that size again. The detail to watch is the cheese, because one of the two in the fridge has a bite taken out of it.

You start in the After Party fridge, which is the morning after a party, and passing round 5 opens the next one. The others are the Family Fridge, Flatmates, Grandma’s, The Office and Five a Day, a fridge full of vegetables nobody is eating. Each fridge keeps its own run and best round. The audio sounds like a fridge at night, and the game plays just as well on silent.

Midnight Fridge is a one-time purchase with no ads or tracking

The game costs $2.99 once, with no ads, no in-app purchases and no account. The developer says it never goes online and collects no data.

Your progress stays on the phone, including the fridges you have unlocked, your best round in each, any runs in progress and settings such as volume. Deleting the app removes all of it, and a device backup to iCloud or a computer includes it like any other app data.

Midnight Fridge is a 50.6 MB download for iPhone only and requires iOS 18.0 or later. It is in English, sits in the Puzzle category and carries a 13+ age rating with infrequent alcohol, tobacco and drug references. Up to six family members can play it through Family Sharing.

Our Take

I like that the fold has a real job here. Unfolding to look inside and folding shut to see the result gives the hinge a role that a tap could not replace. At $2.99 with no ads or tracking, it is an easy pick for iPhone Duo owners, and the full game also runs on other iPhones.
