Apple is expanding Tap to Pay on iPhone to eight more countries in Latin America. The feature is now available in Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Peru.
Tap to Pay on iPhone lets businesses accept contactless payments using an iPhone instead of a separate payment terminal. Customers can pay by tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch, a contactless credit or debit card, or another supported payment method on the merchant’s iPhone.
Tap to Pay on iPhone Expands to 8 New Countries
The latest expansion covers:
- Argentina
- Colombia
- Costa Rica
- Dominican Republic
- Guatemala
- Honduras
- Panama
- Peru
Availability depends on supported payment apps and payment providers in each market.
How Tap to Pay on iPhone Works
The feature uses the iPhone’s NFC hardware to accept contactless payments. Businesses can take payments through a supported payment app without connecting a separate card reader to the iPhone.
Customers simply hold their contactless payment method near the merchant’s iPhone to complete the transaction.
Customers Can Pay With iPhone, Apple Watch or Cards
Tap to Pay on iPhone supports contactless payments through Apple Pay, including payments made with an iPhone or Apple Watch. Customers can also use compatible contactless credit and debit cards.
Other contactless payment methods may be supported depending on the payment provider and local payment network.
Apple Continues Expanding Tap to Pay on iPhone
Apple introduced Tap to Pay on iPhone in the US in 2022 and has since brought it to additional markets around the world. The latest expansion adds eight more countries in Latin America.
For businesses, the feature removes the need for a dedicated payment terminal when accepting supported contactless payments. A compatible iPhone and supported payment provider are enough to take payments.
