Every pose of the iPhone Duo, which are closed, open, book, laptop and tent, now has its own layout in the Wakeout app. In laptop mode the flat half becomes a remote for the video or game on the upright half, and tent mode gives the movement games the best camera angle.
Wakeout won Apple’s iPhone App of the Year in 2020 and is available on the App Store. The iPhone Duo layouts are part of the same app as the iPhone version, which is free to download, with a Wakeout Pro subscription that starts with a free week.
Wakeout app layouts change with each pose
Each pose has its own layout instead of a larger copy of the phone screen. The app also rotates in every pose.
What each pose does
- Closed, the whole app runs on the outside screen, with the tabs in a side column beside the clock
- Open, a split view puts all the movement games on the left and your Home, with Move Now and today’s challenge, on the right
- Book, which is half open and upright, runs the game on the camera side and shows your score, streak and time left on the other side
- Laptop turns the flat half into a remote for getting another move, pausing and continuing
- Tent stands the phone on its edges, with a wide view for games and a compact player for Wakeouts
Tent mode props the camera up
Wakeout has ten movement games that you play with your body through the camera, including Hit the Spot, Saucer Punch and Brick Breaker. Rounds take about a minute, you need no equipment and most of the games work while you sit. Camera games work when the phone is folded, using the camera on the side facing you.
The wide view in tent mode suits games like Brick Breaker and Saucer Punch. The one-minute Wakeouts get a compact player with the move on one side, its name and what is next on the other, and the counter and controls underneath.
Beyond the games, Wakeout has more than 3,000 one-minute moves and a new challenge every day. Walk breaks count your steps live and cheer you on at 100, 250, 500 and beyond.
Wakeout Pro starts with a free week
The games are included with Wakeout Pro, which is free for the first week. One subscription covers iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, and the Apple Watch app works as a remote for starting and controlling your Wakeouts.
Wakeout works best with permission to read and write Apple Health, which it uses for its reminders. You need iOS 17.2 or later and about 288 MB of free space.
Wakeout treats each fold of the iPhone Duo as its own layout instead of stretching one screen. Laptop mode with the remote on the flat half makes sense when you work at a desk. The subscription is the catch, so use the free week before you decide.
