watchOS 9.4 changelog

watchOS 9.4 includes changes to how wake-up alarms work – they are no longer silenced with the cover to mute gesture which could be triggered accidentally during sleep. The update also sees Cycle Tracking and AFib History being released for more locations, including Ukraine.

Here are the complete release notes from Apple:

  • Wake-up alarms are no longer silenced with cover to mute gesture to avoid accidental cancellations during sleep
  • Cycle Tracking with retrospective ovulation estimates and cycle deviation alerts now supported in Moldova and Ukraine
  • AFib History now available in Colombia, Malaysia, Moldova, Thailand, and Ukraine

Although not mentioned in the release notes, watchOS 9.4 will also recalibrate battery on Apple Watch Series 6 (44mm).

Apple has also included a few security fixes in this update. We will update this post as soon as Apple publishes information on its website.

watchOS 9.4 compatible watch models

watchOS 9.4 is supported on the following Apple Watch models:

  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • Apple Watch Series 5
  • Apple Watch SE
  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Ultra

You also need an iPhone 8 or later on iOS 16 or later to use the latest update.

If you already have a developer beta profile installed on your Apple Watch, you can simply go to the Watch app on your iPhone and navigate to Settings > General > Software Update to download the latest release candidate. However, unless you are technically savvy, we don’t recommend installing a prerelease version of watchOS on your Apple Watch as it is not possible to downgrade the operating system in case something goes wrong.
