Analyst says Apple’s rumored 14-inch iPad Pro will not feature a mini-LED display or ProMotion

It was reported last week that Apple is working on an M2 iPad Pro with a 14.1-inch mini-LED display for release early next year. However, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young claims that the rumored device will not feature a mini-LED or a ProMotion display.

Apple 14-inch iPad Pro might not end up being ‘Pro’ at all

Young recently took to Twitter to share the news for his Super Followers. In the tweet, Young reveals that DSCC has confirmed that the iPad does not have mini-LEDs and “will also not likely be ProMotion.” Note that all iPad Pro models to date feature ProMotion.

So if the iPad Pro is lacking these critical features, it may just end up being a larger regular iPad. The lack of mini-LEDs and ProMotion on an iPad with a 14-inch screen does not make the most sense as a device with that amount of screen estate would be an incredible option for users who are looking for a large canvas to do creative work.

Young has previously claimed that the larger iPad would be released in early 2023.

In another exclusive tweet, the analyst says that the new 11-inch iPad Pro is not expected to feature mini-LED display technology, it will remain exclusive to the larger 12.9-inch model. TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that Apple will expand mini-LED display tech to the 11-inch iPad Pro by 2022.

A recent report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple still plans to update the current 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models later this year in the fall, possibly in September or October,  with “M2 chips, wireless charging, and upgrades to the camera system.”

Apple leaker Majin Bu predicts that while the new models will continue featuring the same design as the current iPad Pros, they will feature thinner bezels.
