Apple TV+ renews hit drama ‘The Mosquito Coast’ for season 2

Apple’s streaming service has renewed The Mosquito Coast for a second season several days ahead of the show’s first season finale, slated to debut June 4. The Mosquito Coast was originally intended to be a limited series with seven episodes. However, the critically acclaimed drama’s success led to it being renewed for season two.

Based on the best-selling book by Paul Theroux which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, The Mosquito Coast is a “gripping adventure and layered character drama” following Allie Fox (played by Justin Theroux), a “radical idealist” who uproots his family for Mexico when they suddenly find themselves on the run from the US government.

“‘The Mosquito Coast’ has captured the imagination of viewers all over the world, not only because of its adrenaline-fueled action and adventure but also for the engaging family story and captivating performances at its heart,” said Matt Cherniss, Apple’s head of programming in a statement. “We can’t wait to find out what comes next for the Fox family, and for audiences to continue to experience the thrill ride.”

Season one of The Mosquito Coast is created for television and executive produced by Neil Cross. Executive producers for the series also include author Paul Theroux, star Justin Theroux, Rupert Wyatt, and Edward L. McDonnell. Peter Jaysen and Bob Bookman also serve as executive producers for Veritas Entertainment Group.

The Mosquito Coast is available to watch on Apple TV+. For $4.99 per month, Apple TV Plus is available on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple TV via the Apple TV app. It is also compatible with selected Samsung and LG smart TVs, Roku devices, Amazon Fire TV, and tv.apple.com.
