Updated App Store guidelines make ‘account deletion within apps’ mandatory

With the iOS 15 update, Apple is bringing new features to the App Store as well. The tech giant has informed the developers the ‘account deletion within apps’ feature will go into effect January 31, 2022, for all apps which require account creation.

Apple has so re-launched an improved version of the ‘Report a Problem’ link on the App Store on iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey which allows users to report suspicious activity and problematic apps. The issue of scam apps on the App Store is finally getting attention. However, the feature is only available in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States, and will expand to other regions later.

App Store’s ‘account deletion within apps’ requisite will go into effect on January 31, 2022

The new requirement applies to all apps which require users to create an account and retain some personal information. It will give users control over their data by deleting accounts and associated information.

This requirement applies to all app submissions starting January 31, 2022. We encourage you to review any laws that may require you to maintain certain types of data, and to make sure your app clearly explains what data your app collects, how it collects that data, all uses of that data, your data retention/deletion policies, and more as described in the guideline. Examples of this type of data include electronic health records, and sales and warranty records. Please also confirm that the app privacy information on your product page is accurate.

The underlining accusation is that Apple allows these apps to exist because of its lucrative business.
