Apple Begins Preparing for September iPhone Event, Internal Memo Suggests

Apple has started preparing for its annual September product event, according to a new internal memo inviting U.S. retail employees to help staff the launch.

The memo, first reported by Bloomberg, opens a lottery for retail employees interested in working the in-person event. While Apple has used retail staff at major launches before, the document offers one of the strongest indications yet that preparations for this year’s keynote are now underway.

Employees selected through the lottery will help greet guests, organize queues, provide directions, and assist security teams during the event. Applications are open until August 8, with successful applicants expected to be notified by August 17. Employees who worked at WWDC 2026 or last year’s iPhone launch are not eligible.

Apple has not publicly announced the event or confirmed its date.

September 9 Emerges as the Leading Candidate

The memo doesn’t mention when the keynote will take place, but Bloomberg reports that Wednesday, September 9, appears slightly more likely than other dates.

Apple traditionally holds its flagship iPhone event during the second week of September, although the company has never committed to a fixed schedule. Invitations are typically sent only a week or two before the keynote.

Until Apple officially announces the event, the timing remains speculative.

Foldable iPhone Could Headline the Event

This year’s keynote is expected to be one of Apple’s biggest in years. Alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, Apple is widely expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone after years of rumors. New Apple Watch models and other hardware are also expected, though Apple has yet to confirm any products.

Reports have suggested the foldable iPhone could be announced in September before going on sale at a later date, similar to Apple’s rollout strategy for the iPhone X in 2017.

The event is also expected to be the first major product presentation led by incoming CEO John Ternus, who is set to succeed Tim Cook on September 1. Although Ternus will be introducing the products, the devices themselves have been in development for years under Apple’s existing roadmap.

For now, the employee memo doesn’t reveal Apple’s final event date or product lineup, but it does signal that preparations for one of the company’s most important launches of the year are well underway.
