Everything new in iOS 16.4 beta 3: Apple ID for beta updates, prompts to remove Rapid Security Response and more

Apple recently seeded iOS 16.4 beta 3 to developers and beta testers. The latest beta update is released only seven days after iOS 16.4 beta 2 which arrived eleven days after iOS 16.4 beta 1.

According to the release notes, the new iOS 16.4 beta 3 features Rapid Security Response 16.4 (b) version but there are improvements for Car Key and Beta Update section in the Settings app.

Here is a list of all the new features in iOS 16.4 beta 3

Beta Updates section includes a new Apple ID field for members to sign in with the Apple ID enrolled in the Apple Developer Program.

“You can sign in with a different Apple ID that is enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program or Apple Developer Program.”

The new update workflow allows the registered members with Developer Program to use two different Apple IDs to access developer beta or public beta updates and for personal use.

As Apple ID associated with developer or public beta accounts will only be used to download beta updates and standard Apple ID will be used for other iPhone functions, the new feature is another security layer to crack down on sharing developer beta profiles without paying a $100 annual fee to Apple.

Previously, beta updates were installed through Developer Center profiles which were later shared on pirated websites like Betaprofiles.com for free. Now, Apple has ensured that users have a developer account to access beta updates.

Codes found in the latest iOS 16.4 beta 3 by @Steve Moser reveal the following new features:

  • Car Key to end support for NFC-only vehicles and Apple devices. The Car Key service will require Ultra Wideband which will eliminate support for iPhone XS and Apple Watch Series 5.
  • New colors for Apple Watch ‘Nike Bounce’ with ombre tones of yellow, blue, white, and others.

  • Users will see prompts to remove the Rapid Security Response update if it causes issues with apps or the operating system. iOS 16 introduced the ability to remove Rapid Security Response updates. The feature is available on iPadOS as well.

“Some apps may be closing unexpectedly due to incompatibility with the latest iPadOS rapid security response. Removing the security response may fix this.”

  • Apple Music Classical app is now in the privacy policy in iOS 16.4 beta 3.
  • Photos app contains a new message for merged photos, “This item was merged after being added by you and X. It will be permanently deleted for all Shared Library participants and from iCloud Photos on all your devices. This action cannot be undone.”

Expected iOS 16.4 release date is late March or April and iOS 16.4 features are Safari web push notifications, emojis, Apple Card’s high-yield savings account, 5G standalone support for T-Mobile, Books app gets new “curl” page-turning animation and more based on changes in iOS 16.4 beta 1 and iOS 16.4 beta 2.
