Final Cut Camera 2.4 is now available as a free update, and it adds manual control of the variable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro. The app also gets a full redesign, with new monitoring tools arriving alongside iOS 27.
This follows the tradition of a major new update shortly after the release of a new iPhone model. Last year, version 2.0 added ProRes RAW and genlock for iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max in September 2025.
The redesigned app puts shutter angle, ISO, and white balance within easier reach. Overlays are customizable, including false color and clipping indicators for checking exposure, and focus peaking now has a sensitivity control. A new tally light shows when recording is underway, and a two-finger tap clears the viewfinder so nothing sits between you and the shot.

Creators can dial in a specific aperture or choose between shutter priority and aperture priority modes. The variable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro moves between f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4.0. Wide open, the camera gives a shallower depth of field. Stopped down, more of the scene stays sharp.
The update also brings Cinematic mode effects to regular video, including footage captured in ProRes and Apple Log. Focus points and depth of field can then be changed later while editing in Final Cut Pro.
Final Cut Camera is not the only pro video app with this control. Blackmagic Camera 3.5 added variable aperture control and ProRes recording for iPhone 18 Pro last week.
iOS 27 Adds Video Scopes, Clean SDI Out, and Genlock Offset to the App
Final Cut Camera picks up four monitoring and output tools on iOS 27.
- RGB Parade shows the red, green, and blue color channels to help check color balance and exposure
- Histogram gives a second way to monitor exposure while shooting
- Clean SDI out sends a clean video signal through an HDMI-to-SDI converter for broadcast-quality streaming
- Genlock offset compensates for image artifacts from a recorded display, or for latency differences between the iPhone and other genlocked cameras
Genlock offset builds on the genlock support that arrived with version 2.0. Exposure scopes, focus peaking, and manual focus controls also turned up in the iOS 27 camera code earlier this month.
