How to capture 48MP photos using iPhone 14 Pro camera

One of the major upgrades in the latest Pro lineup is the iPhone 14 Pro’s 48MP camera. The huge jump from the iPhone 13 Pro 12MP camera to the iPhone 14 Pro’s 48MP camera is based on new quad-pixel sensor technology which enables users to capture high-resolution images with rich details, zoom and crop them and print them in larger formats.

However, the iPhone 14 Pro camera uses the 48MP camera to take 12MP pictures by default through pixel binning. We have this easy-to-follow guide on how to use the iPhone 14 Pro camera to take 48MP pictures when you want to capture detailed images.

Here is how to set the iPhone 14 Pro camera to 48MP to capture more detailed and sharper images

  1. Settings app > Camera > Formats.
  2. In the menu, tap on the “High Efficiency” option which is suitable for file size reduction, Cinematic mode, and HDR video recording.
  3. Next turn on “Apple ProRAW” feature and tap on the ProRAW Resolution, to set 48MP as the resolution.

Currently only available on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, a ProRAW file will be 75MB-110MB at 48MP. After the 48MP is set as the default resolution for Apple ProRAW, the “RAW” indicator will appear on the top right corner of the camera app. Note that you will also need to use tools like Lightroom or other apps that support RAW image editing, to get the best results with ProRAW images.
