The recent macOS Catalina 10.15.4 update brings time-synced lyrics to Mac. The Music app now shows time-synced lyrics for songs available on Apple Music. Subscribers can read line by line lyrics while listening to their favorite tunes, scroll through the lyrics, and even jump to their favorite part of the song by choosing that particular line in the lyrics. Users can also play lyrics in full screen mode for karaoke type fun with family and friends. Here is how you can use this new feature in macOS Catalina 10.15.4 update.
When playing the desired tune in the Music app, tap on the lyrics button on the top right corner to open an interface on the right side of the screen, where you can can scroll up and down through the lyrics. The lyrics will automatically scroll as the song goes on, in perfect sync. You can also click on any line in the lyrics to instantly jump to that part of the song.
Furthermore, the Music app mini-player gives users the freedom to continue listening to music while multitasking on their Mac. Click on the song’s tiny album artwork next to the music playback controls to switch to the mini-player.
In the mini-player, hover over the app to see playback controls and the lyrics button. Click the button and the lyrics will slide open.
For some karaoke style fun, users can play music with time-synced lyrics in full screen view. There are a few options to go full screen:
- Use the keyboard shortcut command+shift+F
- When playing in mini-player, click on the green maximize button on the top left to go full screen.
When in fullscreen view, press escape key to exit.

The Music app on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV got the time-sync lyrics features before Mac. Talking from experience, time-synced lyric is an entertaining feature; sing along and never miss a word or beat, or have a blast with karaoke hangouts with family and friends. It can be put to good use to raise spirits during these unprecedented times due to COVID-19 outbreak, when the world is in isolation and praying for the best. Apple too is playing a productive role during this global health crisis. The company recently launched an app and website for COVID-19 screening, to take the nudge off over-worked healthcare providers.
