iOS 16 battery benchmarks

YouTube iAppleBytes has put the following iPhone models with iOS 16 through the paces in a battery test to see how they fare, compared to iOS 15:

  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone SE (2020)
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 13

The battery test was done using Geekbench, which performs a battery benchmark by running processor-intensive tests to fully discharge the iPhone. Auto-brightness was also disabled. The benchmark results in the following battery time before the iPhones completely shutdown:

  • iPhone 8: 2 hours 59 minutes
  • iPhone SE (2020): 3 hours 45 minutes
  • iPhone XR: 5 hours 48 minutes
  • iPhone 11: 5 hours 49 minutes
  • iPhone 12: 7 hours 9 minutes
  • iPhone 13: 9 hours 4 minutes

The end results showed that iPhone 8 showed worse battery life compared to iOS 15, while other iPhones showed similar or better battery life. Another test by iAppleBytes showed these same phones achieving the following battery times on iOS 15.7:

  • iPhone 8: 3 hours 15 minutes
  • iPhone SE (2020): 3 hours 19 minutes
  • iPhone XR: 4 hours 49 minutes
  • iPhone 11: 5 hours 17 minutes
  • iPhone 12: 5 hours 47 minutes
  • iPhone 13: 7 hours 28 minutes

As you can see, except iPhone 8, all other iPhone models showed improvement in battery life, especially with the recent iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models improving by approximately 1.5 hours each.

So if you have one of the above iPhone models, excluding iPhone 8, you should not have to worry about reduced battery life.
