The references appear in system files related to battery drivers and Battery Intelligence features, using Apple’s internal identifiers rather than marketing names, but those codes match designations that have appeared in previous leaks and in Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman’s reporting closely enough to map each one to an expected model.
As spotted by Macworld, the six devices referenced in the code span the entire iPhone 18 generation, split across Apple’s two-phase rollout strategy. The September 2026 wave covers the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Ultra. The spring 2027 wave covers the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2. That split is a significant departure from Apple’s traditional all-at-once September cadence, and finding all six models in a single beta build confirms Apple is treating them as one unified product generation internally, even if consumers will encounter them eight or nine months apart.
iOS 27 beta 5, seeded to developers on August 10 with build number 24A5408d, arrived two weeks after beta 4. That two-week gap is likely the last one: at this stage in the cycle, Apple typically shifts to weekly betas as it moves from feature work to bug fixes and performance tuning, with iOS 27’s public release roughly six weeks away alongside the September hardware.
The internal identifiers confirm that these models exist in Apple’s pipeline and are far enough along to appear in battery management code, which is meaningful. Battery driver references tend to appear when hardware is in active software integration, not early prototyping. What the code does not supply is any spec detail: display size, camera configuration, pricing, and chip generation remain in the rumor category. The hardware picture assembled from separate reporting includes:
- iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max retaining 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes
- Face ID flood illuminator moving under the display, enabling a smaller Dynamic Island
- LTPO+ display technology on Pro models, expected to contribute to iOS 27 battery life gains
