iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max announced: 5G, LiDAR Scanner, A14 Bionic chip and more

Today, Apple announced the new iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro models at the ‘Hi, Speed’ event along with the two iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 base models. Available in new color options, and an edge-to-edge design language, the Pro and Pro Max models offer 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays with thinner bezels.

Across all models of the new flagship smartphone series, the Cupertino tech giant powered it with next-generation A14 Bionic chips for faster performance, used the new Ceramic Shield front cover to protect the new Super Retina XDR displays, and given 5G network support. However, the high-end models are equipped with a pro camera system, LiDAR scanner, and the biggest screen ever to deliver an experience like never before.

Available in graphite, gold, silver, and pacific blue, the new Pro and Pro Max models have stainless steel body, and the Super Retina XDR displays, the largest ever on an iPhone, are protected by 4x more durable Ceramic Sheilds.

The most distinctive features of the high-end variants are the more advanced camera features for high-quality photography and videography experiences.

Powerful and Efficient A14 Bionic Chip

The first-ever processor built on a 5-nanometer process, the new A14 Bionic chip delivers a 50% faster CPU and GPU performance than “any fastest competing smartphone chip”. The power-efficient A14 Bionic enables computational photography, console-quality gaming, and more.

“A14 Bionic features a 16-core Neural Engine — for an 80 percent increase in performance — that is capable of completing 11 trillion operations per second, enabling improved performance on even the most intense ML models.”

Advanced Camera System

The A14 Bionic chip is the company’s own new powerful processor that enables computational photography features like the new

  • The new Apple ProRAW feature (coming later this year) will offer more creative control for photos’ color, details and dynamic range by combining Apple’s multi-frame image processing and computational photography with a RAW format.
  • Pro camera system includes an Ultra Wide camera, a Telephoto camera with a larger focal length in iPhone 12 Pro Max, and new Wide cameras for professional-quality photos and videos. Equipped with the new image signal processor (ISP), the A14 Bionic chip offers computational photography experience unachievable by traditional cameras. Computational photography features like the Night mode to take incredibly detailed pictures in low-light conditions.

The new ƒ/1.6 aperture Wide camera boasts a 47 percent larger sensor with 1.7μm pixels for a massive 87 percent improvement in low-light conditions.   • LiDAR Scanner for immersive AR experience enables light distance measuring and measure distance and the use of pixel depth details of a place.

5G Connectivity

Both high-end models of the new iPhone 12 series are equipped with the most 5G bands to offer advanced 5G experience to Apple’s users worldwide. The Pro models also support Smart Data mode which automatically switches between 5G and LTE coverage and speed depending on users’ usage. This feature is designed to save energy and deliver a more power-efficient experience in real-time.

Redesigned and Innovative Display

The iPhone 12 Pro models have a new flat-edge stainless steel band with precision milled matte glass back which is protected by the new Ceramic Sheild for 4x drop durability. The largest 6.7-inch display of the iPhone 12 Pro

Max offers the highest resolution of approximately 3.5 million pixels.

MagSafe

The magnets of this new wireless charger, seamlessly attached to the back of all iPhone 12 models and its accompanying cases and wallets for an efficient charging experience. Apple has also introduced MagSafe Duo Charger to charge iPhone and Apple Watch simultaneously.

Retailing for $999, the iPhone 12 Pro model will be available for pre-order online on October 16 and in stores by October 23. The iPhone 12 Pro Max model will retail for $1,099 and will be open on pre-order on November 6 online and in stores by November 13.
