To meet iPhone 13 increasing demand, Foxconn hires 200,000 more workers

A new report from a local television in the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou claims that Apple’s largest supplier Foxconn is rushing to hire 200,000 more workers to keep up with the rising demand for iPhone 13, as the tech giant is expected to unveil the new smartphone in the next month.

According to Foxconn’s deputy general manager of Zhengzhou, the facility can house a maximum of 350,000 assembly line workers and produce up to 500,000 smartphones per day. Getting more manpower has been the ‘biggest bottleneck’ at the sprawling manufacturing complex run by Foxconn.

Foxconn’s deputy general manager, Wang Xue, says that it is very confident that it can achieve its staffing goal at current recruitment levels. The report also states that even the local government is involved in the recruitment process.

Various local governments in central Henan province have mobilized workers for procesing as new recruits at the massive iPhone assembly center in the outskirts of Zhengzhou, according to the report. It said local governments have chartered 100 buses to “pick up the job applicants from their communites and drop them at the factory gates.”

Recent rumors indicated that the pre-orders for the new iPhone 13 will commence on September 14, with it being sold the following week. iPhone 13 is expected to be announced in four models with the same screen sizes as before. The Pro variants will feature the ProMotion technology with a 120Hz refresh rate. Most likely the event will be held virtually in the third week of September.
