Counterpoint Expects Apple to Sell 6 Million iPhone Duo Units in 2026

Counterpoint Research expects Apple to sell about 6 million iPhone Duo units in 2026. The figure is small next to a normal iPhone launch and closer to what the niche foldable segment usually sees.

The forecast comes from Counterpoint senior analyst Ivan Lam, and Bloomberg reported on it. Lam says the number depends on how well Apple ramps up production of the new hardware.

iPhone Duo Night Sky

The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone. It sits at the top of the lineup with a $1,999 US starting price. Pre-orders open on October 16, and the phone launches on October 23.

At that starting price, 6 million units add up to roughly $12 billion in sales, before counting the higher storage tiers that climb to $3,199 for 2TB. IDC predicts an average selling price of $2,500, which would put the total closer to $15 billion.

The 6 Million iPhone Duo Forecast Depends on Apple’s Production Ramp

Foxconn’s whole-device assembly yield for the iPhone Duo is reportedly in the 60 percent range, and the same report expects a mature yield to take six months to a year. The folding OLED panel and some hinge parts have also had low yields and late deliveries, the report says.

Early September reporting put output for Apple’s foldable at a few hundred units per day, even as suppliers were told to prepare for roughly 10 million units. Apple’s hardware chief has said the hinge was the hardest problem to solve. The supply chain is also waiting on Apple to decide whether to relax its quality requirements, which would speed up volume production.

The launch window is longer than usual too. Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 10, and pre-orders open 36 days later, with release 43 days after the announcement. Over the past five years, fall flagship iPhones averaged about three days to pre-order and about 10 days to release.

Other Estimates Put 2026 iPhone Duo Volume Between 5 and 10 Million Units

Counterpoint’s number is one of several for 2026, and the range is wide:

  • Counterpoint Research forecasts about 6 million units
  • Apple’s reported global stocking target is 6 million to 8 million units
  • Apple’s reported sales guidance is above 5 million units
  • Analyst Jeff Pu expects about 7 million units through the end of 2026
  • Suppliers were reportedly told in early September to prepare for roughly 10 million units

For scale, KeyBanc models roughly 80 million iPhone 18 lineup builds across Apple’s fiscal fourth quarter of 2026 and first quarter of 2027. Six million iPhone Duo units would be under a tenth of that. A mainstream iPhone Pro or iPhone Pro Max model usually ships 20 million to 30 million units over one product cycle.

A 6 million iPhone Duo year would also equal about a third of the 18.2 million foldables shipped worldwide in 2025, in a segment where first-half 2026 shipments fell 21.6 percent to 5.1 million units.

Rivals are already reacting, with Samsung reportedly weighing an early Galaxy Z TriFold 2. One analyst expects iPhone Duo volume to reach 20 million to 30 million units within two to three years as production and software mature.

Our Take

Six million units looks like a reasonable call for a $1,999 phone built on a line that is still working through yield problems. Supply will be tight whatever the final number turns out to be, so I would not wait until pre-order morning to sort out the order. Our iPhone Duo pre-order guide has the full price list. Apple’sget ready process opens on October 12, and pre-orders begin on October 16 at 8 a.m. Eastern Time.
