Lander for Reddit, a free third-party Reddit client, puts the feed and the open post side by side on the inner display of the iPhone Duo. Half-fold the phone like a laptop and the discussion stays above the fold while the feed sits below it.
The app comes from developer William Smolen and is free on the App Store with every feature included. It is an unofficial client with no tie to Reddit, Inc., in a category that lost Apollo to Reddit’s API fees in 2023.

Lander for Reddit shows the feed and the post at the same time on iPhone Duo
Unfolded in landscape, the feed sits on the left and the open post on the right, and the two sides meet at the hinge. Settings > Appearance > iPhone Duo swaps them. Opening or closing a post happens in place, so nothing slides or reflows, and your spot in the feed and the comments survives a fold or a rotation.
A side bar holds the controls for the feed, a switch for Lander’s own split layout, and Close, Reply, Next Comment and comment sort for the open post. Replying takes over the whole screen with a short reply box under the comment you are answering, and Cancel and Send stay visible with the keyboard up wherever there is a side bar. Because both panes live inside one app, the layout is separate from iPhone Duo’s Split View, which puts two different apps next to each other.
In the half fold, photos and videos sit above with their title and Share below. Replying in portrait keeps the keyboard below the fold with the thread you are answering above it, and the inbox puts the open conversation above the fold with your messages below. When the phone bends into book mode, content moves off the crease, and laid flat it fills the whole display.
The outer display and iPad get layouts of their own
On the 5.4-inch outer display, and anywhere the two panes do not fit, posts open as they do on iPhone, zooming out of the comment icon with the native swipe back to the feed. Shortcut bubbles for your communities along the top of the outer display are off by default and can be turned on in Settings > Appearance, where they sit on the feed only and fold away as you scroll.
On iPad in landscape, Home shows two columns with the feed beside the post you are reading. Split View has a switch for each orientation in Settings > Appearance, on in landscape and off in portrait, and a post’s own Split View button flips the current one. Anyone who prefers a single wide column can turn it off in the side bar on iPhone Duo or in Settings > Appearance on iPad.
Every feature is free, and public reads go through a relay by default
Smolen says Lander has no ads and no advertising tracking, and the supporter subscriptions that start at $0.99 a month unlock nothing extra. Browsing public content needs no account, while voting, posting and commenting require signing in with Reddit, and your session is kept in Keychain. NSFW content needs a signed-in account with adult content enabled in your Reddit preferences, and the app carries an 18+ rating.
Public reads go through a relay called Columbia by default, which can fall back to a direct connection and can be switched off in Settings on iPhone and iPad. Lander currently runs both the relay and the gateway, so the split between your address and your request is not between independent operators.
Themes, gestures and moderation tools carry over from the iPhone app. There are 22 themes plus custom colors, swipe actions for voting, replying and saving, and mod tools for reports, removals, flair and bans from inside the thread. Settings sync through iCloud, and thread summaries run with Apple Intelligence on supported devices.
Lander for Reddit is a 37.5 MB download that requires iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 or later, or a Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later. Apple Vision Pro has a separate paid edition called Lander Vision.
