Microsoft Edge has added Apple Account sign-in flags to its latest Canary build, with the feature already rolling out to Edge Beta users. This is in addition to the existing login with Microsoft as well as Google that the company had recently added.
This was discovered first spotted by user Leopeva64 on X, and is available on both Mac and Windows.
Two flags are available in the canary build that enable this feature. The first one enables the core Apple Account authentication mechanism for Edge profiles, while the second controls the visibility of the Apple sign-in button in the profile menu. That button would sit alongside the existing Google Account option, which Microsoft introduced previously using the same phased flag approach. Microsoft has already listed Apple Account sign-in in the release notes for Edge Beta version 152.
Right now, syncing settings across Edge installations requires a Microsoft Account. For users who have no interest in maintaining a Microsoft Account to get browser sync, Apple Account sign-in removes that requirement, letting someone tie an Edge profile to the same Apple ID they already use for iCloud, the App Store, and the rest of the ecosystem.
Sign in with Apple uses two-factor authentication by default, so there is no security downside to using it here compared to a Microsoft Account. Microsoft has already demonstrated willingness to integrate with Apple’s infrastructure in other ways, including iCloud Passwords support through a browser extension on Windows, and its work on Edge for Apple Silicon Macs reflects the same cross-platform intent. This move fits an established pattern rather than representing a sudden strategic shift.
For cross-platform users running Microsoft 365 at work and iCloud at home, signing into Edge with an Apple Account without creating yet another credential is a small but real quality-of-life improvement. It is unclear when this update will be available to a wider audience.
