The prompt shows your current plan and an option to move to a higher tier, and the language on that upgrade page strongly implies that each step up the iCloud+ ladder brings not just more camera AI access but higher usage caps across Apple Intelligence features broadly.
Two specific perks are tied to iCloud+ in iOS 27. The first is increased daily usage limits for select Apple Intelligence features, including image generation in the revamped Image Playground app, though Apple has not disclosed the exact daily caps. The second is HomeKit Secure Video support for generated video descriptions, the ability to search through camera clips, and automatic surfacing of noteworthy clips. Access to those camera features requires at least a 2TB iCloud+ plan at $9.99 per month, which unlocks AI summaries for 5 cameras. The 12TB plan bumps that to 15 cameras.
Apple has said “increased access” applies to “most” iCloud+ plans, which reads as a carve-out for the base 50GB tier at $0.99 per month. The two core AI perks are expected to require at least the 200GB plan at $2.99 per month when iOS 27 ships in September. Apple One Family ($25.95 per month) and Apple One Premier ($37.95 per month) subscribers should receive the same benefits.

Apple’s stated justification is that the new features rely on “powerful server models” that cost more to run, which is a straightforward explanation for why usage caps exist at all. Less obvious is why iOS 27’s HomeKit updates for camera AI start at the 2TB tier rather than 200GB, given that HomeKit Secure Video already requires a paid iCloud+ plan to function at all.
