Raycast Rebuilds Its iPhone Keyboard with Swipe Typing and AI Fixes

Raycast has rebuilt its keyboard for iOS as a full typing keyboard, so it can replace the default iPhone keyboard instead of being something you switch to for Raycast’s tools. The new version launched on October 29 with swipe typing, autocorrect and dictation.

Raycast announced the new keyboard on X, and it comes with the Raycast app on the App Store, which needs iOS 18 or later. People who used the earlier companion keyboard are switched to the new one automatically, although it types in English only for now, with more languages coming.

Raycast keyboard for iOS types like a real keyboard

It has autocorrect, word suggestions, swipe typing and automatic capitalization, and double-tapping the spacebar types a period while holding it moves the cursor like a trackpad. The keyboard also reads your iOS Text Replacements and contact names.

Layouts go beyond QWERTY, with QWERTZ, AZERTY, Dvorak, Colemak, Colemak-DH and Workman available. Five themes (Default, Clear, Physical, Mechanical and iOS 5) change the look, and you can turn on a number row, key haptics and key sounds.

AI, dictation and snippets sit one tap above the keys

A row above the letters holds Quick Fix, GIFs, Search and Ask AI by default, and you can rearrange it. Quick Fix corrects spelling and grammar in place, Ask AI answers a prompt using your text or up to four attached images, and AI Commands run your saved prompts on selected text. Those AI features need Raycast Pro.

Dictation starts from a button in the suggestion bar, with a style picker for formatting the transcript. Snippets expand when you type their keyword, and Quicklinks insert saved links. Smart emoji search adds AI matches a moment after the local results, and Search also handles calculations, conversions and weather.

How to make Raycast your primary iPhone keyboard

After installing the app and adding third-party keyboards on iPhone as usual, open Raycast, tap your avatar and choose Keyboard, then tap Set Up Keyboard. In the iOS Settings app, turn on Raycast under Keyboards and switch on Allow Full Access. To replace the default keyboard, go to General, Keyboard, Keyboards, tap Edit, drag Raycast to the top and delete English. If you would rather keep the default keyboard for typing, Raycast can stay as a Secondary keyboard that you switch to from the globe key when you need its tools.

Typing, emoji, snippets, Quicklinks and Search work without Full Access. Quick Fix, Ask AI, AI Commands, dictation, GIF search and creating a snippet need it, because iOS only lets keyboards with Full Access go online. Raycast says what you type stays on the device and the keyboard collects nothing from password, one-time code or card number fields, where iOS shows its own keyboard anyway.
