Apple seeds third tvOS 15.6 beta and HomePod 15.6 beta

Apple has released the third beta builds for tvOS 15.6 and HomePod 15.6 to developers. The first betas were released just a day after Apple released tvOS 15.5 and HomePod Software Update 15.5 to all users.

The previous updates were minor in nature and featured performance improvements and bug fixes.

These will potentially be the last updates for tvOS 15.x and HomePod 15.x as Apple will be announced tvOS 16 and HomePod 16 at WWDC 22 next month.

May 31 – The second developer beta is now available.

Beta 1

May 19 – The first public beta is now available.

May 18 – Apple has not provided any release notes for the update. We will update this post if any new features are discovered. Otherwise, like the previous update, expect “performance improvements and bug fixes”.

Installation

Installing a tvOS developer beta is not a simple process. We have written a detailed guide on how to install tvOS 15.6 beta on Apple TV, but it requires Xcode.

If you are really interested in trying out the latest tvOS beta updates, we suggest opting into the public beta which is as simple as going to Settings > System > Software Update on your Apple TV, and enabling ‘Get Beta Updates’. This is perhaps the easiest method of installing beta updates on any Apple product.

HomePod mini

HomePod 15.6 beta

This beta update is supported on all HomePod models, included the original HomePod and the smaller HomePod mini.

Beta 1

May 18 – Similar to other beta updates released today, Apple has not shared any release notes for this beta update too. Expect an update if we find any new changes.

Installation

There is no way to get the HomePod beta software update as it is not available to developers or public beta testers. The beta update is only available to participants in the AppleSeed Program, which is not open to all.
