Jailbreak iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 with blackra1n
Update: Don’t follow this guide. Use this one to jailbreak all iPod Touch models with OS 3.1.2/3.1.3 untethered using Spirit Jailbreak!
Important: iPhone OS 3.1.3 has been released for the iPhone and iPod Touch. We’ve got a new guide up on how to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 and iPod Touch 3.1.3 with redsn0w 0.9.4. Don’t upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 if you’re using an unlocked iPhone 3G/3Gs or a jailbroken iPod Touch 2G (MC Model)/3G. The redsn0w guide is for iPhone 2G/3G jailbreak and iPod Touch 1G/2G ( non MC Models) only.
The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G. A word of caution from George for iPhone Jailbreakers though:
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Here’s how to jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n.
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take sometime while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. There is an option to install Rock or Icy as well, which are Cydia alternatives.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.

no, but if you downgrade to 3.1.2 and jailbreak with this, than you can jailbreak 4.0 using snowbreeze, but you need to be prejailbroken on 3.1.2 first

i jail broke my ipod before and took it off, now when I try I can't find the app and my Ipod is in recovery mode

Well me I tried blackrain but it never works. So I went to jailbreakme.com on my iPod and then the cydia is on my iPod and then myvi plug in my iPod on my computer it says that to back it up so I did and then when my iPod is turned on the cydia and all the stuff I downloaded from cydia were gone and then I tried to download it again but it didn’t work
do you have to have wifi access in order to use cydia once youve downloaded it?
When you upgraded to the newest Itunes they got smart about blackrain and tried to prevent most from using it. You simply have to put blackrain in your itunes asl.dll file, there are multiple videos on how to do this. ^_^

Okay guys.What errors? You need to specify here. If you get the asl.dll error and then when you click make it run it says in was installed wrong, or something like that, then, first of all move Blackra1n from where it is now (usually in the download folder) to:
1)If Vista 32-bit:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleApple Application Support…
2)If Vista 64-bit:
C:Program Files(x86)Common FilesAppleApple Application Support

Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem”. i reinsalled afew times, and it keeps saying this,.. i tryed puttting it on a different file thing and i think i just messed that up. but, yeah im also using windows7 so :S im really confused. please help :S

hey if you guys are getting ASL.dll error look it up on youtube on how to fix that, or google i found out that if you put blackra1n in a certain folder you won’t get that probelm
my iphone 2G is without a sim…and it shows connect to itune sign and has entered emergency mode.
when i am trying to restore it through blackra1n is gets stuck in recovery mode. the phone is not able to reboot
any suggestions
@dergy: go to C drive> program files>common files>apple>apple *** *** >cut paste ur blackra1n icon there and then create a chortcut on desktop

Whenever i try to download blackra1n, it stops working due to ASL, is that my ipod, computer, or the program? Is there anything i need to do?
