Jailbreak iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 with blackra1n
Important: iPhone OS 3.1.3 has been released for the iPhone and iPod Touch. We’ve got a new guide up on how to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 and iPod Touch 3.1.3 with redsn0w 0.9.4. Don’t upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 if you’re using an unlocked iPhone 3G/3Gs or a jailbroken iPod Touch 2G (MC Model)/3G. The redsn0w guide is for iPhone 2G/3G jailbreak and iPod Touch 1G/2G ( non MC Models) only.
The jailbreak for iPod Touch OS 3.1.2 is finally here, and from none other than George Hotz who has been jailbreaking the iPhone since it was first launched. Called blackra1n, this Windows only jailbreak tool works for all iPhones ( 2G, 3G and 3GS ) as well as iPod Touch 2G and 3G. A word of caution from George for iPhone Jailbreakers though:
UPDATE: If your device doesn’t boot again, don’t panic. Just re-run blackra1n while the device is plugged in.

Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.
Here’s how to jailbreak your iPod Touch using blackra1n.
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes. It’s free if you were already using 3.0 on iPod Touch otherwise you’ll have to buy it.
- Once your iPod Touch has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take sometime while your iPod Touch is jailbroken. You’ll see George’s picture, which means it’s working. After it’s down, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon in your apps now. Launch it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. There is an option to install Rock or Icy as well, which are Cydia alternatives.
- Congratulations, you have your iPod Touch 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.

you should add that in order to downgrade to 3.1.2 from 3.1.3 like i had to you simply download the firmware then press shift+left button on mouse on the update button in itunes. this then opens it up for you to find the file you saved it in and use it to download the firmware. thank you very much for this guide. i now have a jailbroken 3.1.2 2nd gen ipod touch

I tried that downgrade trick but it didn’t work. Every time I do it I just get the “This device isn’t eligible for this requested build” error. I was excited for a second when I read this, but now I’m back to patiently waiting for a jailbreak on the 3.1.3.
If I hadn’t panicked in the first place when my power died and I was told to update, I wouldn’t have this problem. Oh well.
So where did you get the firmware for 3.1.2
WOW!! i had jailbroken my ipod touch before, but needed to rejailbreak for the 3.1.2 firmware, and this was the easiest way to do it that i have ever seen! great job!

I already jailbroke my iPod it worked for me but I can’t run street fighter iv because I don’t have the OS 3.0
I don’t understand how to use this. Do i get free apps at the app store or on cynthia?! so confused!!!!
In order to get free apps you have to download certain things from Cydia. If you search on Youtube there are many tutorials on how to get free apps once you jailbreak.

Okay seriously okay the only compadabilities i have is windows 95 windows 98 windows 2000 and windows NT 4.0 (service pack 5) will Blackra1n work with any of these?
because i had it on 95 and i downloaded it twice and it didnt do anything then i downloaded it with 2000 and it made me whipe my touch clean…. or must i need windows XP?

everything went successful but when i switch off my itouch after jailbreak..it shows connect to itunes pls help.
You might have a newer model (MC). If so when you reboot you have to go through the jailbreak process each time you shut it off.
i just bought a new ipod touch 3rd gen 3.1.3 firmware can i downgrader to 3.1.2 to jailbreak it or does it need to have been on 3.1.2 before
how long does the reboot take?
my friend made me try it but i did not want to take a chance so i told my friends about it and then my others friends tryed it n they were mad because now it took 3 weeks to download the app called facebook and my ipodtouch it takes a min so unless you want to try it then be ready to wait a long time to just download one app
