Apple recently upgraded its entry-level wireless headphones by launching the redesigned AirPod 3 with new features and a longer battery. Now, the company is expected to upgrade its higher-end AirPod Pro but there is little information on their exact launch time.
A new leak by @FronTron claims that the Cupertino tech giant will launch the next-generation AirPods Pro 2 in the third quarter of 2022, which starts from July 1 and ends on September 30. That means, Apple might unveil the next generation AirPod Pro at the September event with the next-generation iPhone.
Supply Chain sources confirm the launch of AirPod Pro 2 in Q3, 2021
The leaker claims that information on the next-generation AirPod Pro 2 came directly from the supply chain source. Although @FronTron does not have a decent record, the leaker accurately predicted the release date of the new AirPod 3 and also shared information on AirPod Pro 2 before renowned tech analysts, all based on the intel from the same source.
Alleged images of the new high-end earbuds reveal that they will come with a redesigned charging case, earbuds and both components will ship with Find My support running on future iOS 16 updates. In addition, the charging case will be equipped with speakers to play a sound so that owners can locate it.
In the earbuds, Apple will replace the optical sensors with skin detection sensors like in AirPods 3 so both AirPods can detect in-ear placement and press on the stem. The news also refuted claims by Mark Gurman that AirPods will be stemless. Another leaker @Mr. White reported that Apple might offer AirPods Pro 2 in two different sizes. He shared images of SoC housings for the H1 processor in two different sizes.
