Apple has quietly confirmed that Siri AI will come with daily usage limits when iOS 27 launches next week, and expanded access will eventually cost extra. The detail surfaced in the fine print of Apple’s announcement covering the new Health Sensing features on the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Buried in that release, Apple said several Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side processing will be capped on a daily basis. The list includes Siri AI, the intelligent photo editing tools, Image Playground, and the AFM 3 Cloud models used in Shortcuts.
Apple didn’t share exact numbers, instead, it said the limits will shift depending on the feature, how complex a request is, how much demand the servers are seeing at the time, and its own internal policies. In other words, expect the caps to move around rather than sit at one fixed number.
A Paid Tier Is Coming
Apple confirmed that once you hit your daily limit, you’ll be able to pay for expanded access. No pricing or billing structure has been announced yet, but this lines up with what Apple said at WWDC earlier this year, when it revealed that higher iCloud+ tiers would unlock more headroom for the capped Apple Intelligence features.
Starting with the 2027 software releases, users can experience the next generation of Apple Intelligence, with enhanced access to features that rely on server-side models. These features include but aren’t limited to:

– Intelligent Photo Editing Tools including Clean Up, Extend, and Spatial Reframing
– Image Playground
– AFM 3 Cloud and AFM 3 Cloud Pro Models in Shortcuts
– Developer apps using Apple Foundation Models in Private Cloud ComputeIn the future, Apple will implement usage limits on these and other Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features to ensure a high-quality, reliable experience for everyone. If you reach a limit in a particular feature, that feature will become available again after a time out period. Limits may vary by feature, request complexity, system demand, system policies, and other factors. Increased access to such features will be available for a fee.
This is the clearest sign yet that Apple is treating its cloud-based AI features as a metered resource rather than something bundled indefinitely into the price of a new iPhone or an iCloud+ subscription you already pay for.
When This Kicks In
iOS 27, along with Siri AI and the rest of the new Apple Intelligence capabilities, arrives on September 14. The new Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 follow on September 18. That gives Apple less than a week to spell out how these limits will actually work in practice, assuming it says anything more before launch.
For now, anyone planning to lean heavily on Siri AI or Image Playground once iOS 27 lands should know there’s a ceiling, even if Apple hasn’t said where it sits.
