It has been 2 months since Apple launched the next-generation 2023 Mac mini with powerful M2 and M2 Pro chips. The affordable supercharged model is 5x faster than comparable Windows desktops and up to 50% faster than its predecessor.
When it comes to gaming, this machine will happily entertain you as long as the titles you run are natively available for macOS.

YouTuber MrMacRight held a test to see how well the Mac mini with an M2 chip performs while playing games. The video contains 35 games but we will be showcasing the top best 10 games for Mac mini.
Resident Evil Village
Survival horror shooter Resident Evil Village by Capcom performed at 50-60 FPS at 1080p with max settings. To achieve 60 FPS Max settings you will need to cap the FPS at 60, turn VSync on, and MetalFX on with Quality enabled. Although there are some minor FPS drops due to challenging scenes but it is impressive how smoothly the game runs.
Disney Dreamlight Valley
The next game tested was Disney Dreamlight Valley, a new life Sim by Gameloft. At 1152p with high settings and VSync on, the game runs at 60 FPS easily. With nearly 2K resolution, the game runs very smoothly with vibrant colors. Though there are some minor FPS drops, which are not very noticeable.
Total War: Warhammer III
Total War: Warhammer III is one of the most demanding games to try on any Apple silicon-based Mac. At 1080p, the game hovers around 30-40 FPS. To get to 60 FPS, you will need to play at medium settings with AMD FSR enabled with screen scaling at 62%. Though the game runs via Rosseta, the rendering and shading are optimized specifically for M1 and M2.
The next tested game was Psychonauts 2 which is a pretty demanding game to play on a Mac. At 1440p and medium settings, the game runs at around 40 FPS. 60 FPS is not achievable even if the resolution is changed so we suggest playing on 1440p.
The next tested game was a first-person action survival game Dying Light. At 1080p with high settings, it received 60-120 FPS. It can also be played at 1440p high settings but hovers around 40-60 FPS. Though it is old, it still runs pretty smoothly and is enjoyable.
The next tested game is one of the most popular games Minecraft. It is native to Apple silicon, with popular mods installed, and 1080p resolution, it performs at over 400 FPS which is quite amazing.
The next game is the racing game Dirt 4. At 1080p with ultra settings and VSync on, it easily runs at 60 FPS. It can even be played at 2160p high settings with a locked 30 FPS.
Up next is one of the first big games to support Apple Silicon natively, Disco Elysium. At 2160p and max settings, it gets about 45-60 FPS and works great on the Mac mini.
League of Legends
The next tested game is League of Legends. At 1080p with very high settings, it runs between 300-400 FPS. At 2160p with very high settings, it runs between 150-250 FPS, which is amazing.
Last but not the least, Myst is a hardcore puzzle game and one of the best-looking games on Mac. At 1080p with ultra settings and VSync on, AMD SFR, and 60 FPS cap, it provides a locked 60 FPS smooth gameplay.
This high-end game supports 4K thanks to AMD SFR, and at 2160p with high settings with VSync on, AMD FSR, and 30 FPS cap, you will be able to play it with amazing photo-realistic graphics. Beware that you may face some FPS drops.
The M2 Mac mini is an affordable but powerful device. It is quite impressive how well it works as a gaming Mac despite being a low-end device.
