OLED MacBook Pro Shipments Forecast at 1.2M to 1.5M in 2027

OLED MacBook Pro shipments are forecast to reach 1.2 million to 1.5 million units in 2027, according to market research firm TrendForce. Apple announced the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display on October 28, and availability begins on November 6.

That range applies to every configuration of the new model, which starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch size with M5 Pro and reaches $4,799 for the 16-inch size with M5 Max. TrendForce says the price could temper near-term replacement demand, because Apple sells the OLED model next to its existing mini-LED MacBook Pro lineup.

The $2,899 Starting Price Is the Hurdle for OLED MacBook Pro Shipments

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999 and keeps the mini-LED display, which puts it $900 below the cheapest OLED model, although the two use different chips. Apple rates the OLED display at up to 2000 nits of peak brightness and a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, against 1600 nits and 1,000,000:1 on the mini-LED MacBook Pro models. With the same M5 Pro chip, the 14-inch OLED model weighs 3.0 pounds, half a pound less than the mini-LED version.

Part of the extra cost goes to touch, which uses a sensor built inside the display panel and works with many existing apps right away because macOS translates touches into clicks.

TrendForce also sees the pricing as part of Apple’s effort to sell across a wider range of price points, citing the MacBook Neo’s departure from entry-level pricing. The MacBook Neo went up by $100 in June, one of several Apple price increases in 2026.

Samsung Display Has the OLED MacBook Pro Panels to Itself

Samsung Display is currently the exclusive panel supplier for the new MacBook Pro and has designated Phase 1 of its G8.6 A6 production line at its Asan campus in South Korea for Apple. The MacBook Pro is the first product to enter mass production on that line, which uses fine metal mask (FMM) OLED technology.

TrendForce says the tandem OLED structure and 254 pixels per inch make the panel hard to produce, mostly because of material costs and manufacturing yields. LG Display, BOE and TCL CSOT are running qualification programs, but TrendForce believes the cost of meeting Apple’s specifications and Samsung Display’s established position set a high bar for them.

Those three companies are going after the supply chain for the OLED MacBook Air instead, which TrendForce expects to debut in 2029.

OLED Laptop Shipments Keep Growing in a Shrinking Market

Windows brands such as Lenovo, HP and ASUS have mainly driven OLED laptops until now, and TrendForce expects Apple’s entry to push more brands to prioritize OLED models in their roadmaps. It also expects the overall notebook market to contract for two consecutive years. Even so, it projects that OLED notebook shipments will grow nearly 40% in 2026 and by more than 40% in 2027.
