tvOS 27 is a smaller update than its counterparts this year, with no Siri AI and a shorter feature list. That has not stopped a handful of connectivity and audio bugs from showing up after the update.

AirPlay and HomePod Connectivity Drops
The most reported issue is an “unable to connect” error between Apple TV and HomePod, sometimes repeating every few minutes even after tapping through it.
- Unplug the Apple TV for 30 seconds and plug it back in. This clears the connection more reliably than a software restart
- Confirm the Apple TV and HomePod are on the same Wi-Fi network and, if your router supports it, the same band
- Restart your router if the drops keep happening across a restart of the Apple TV itself
- Check for a tvOS point update under Settings, System, Software Updates, since Apple has patched similar connectivity issues quickly in past releases
Audio Not Routing to Your Speakers in Certain Apps
Some streaming apps have been reported sending audio only to the TV’s built-in speakers instead of a connected HomePod or Sonos system, even when other apps route audio correctly.
- Force close the affected app from the App Switcher and reopen it
- Update the app itself, audio routing issues tied to one specific app are usually on the developer’s side rather than tvOS
- Reselect your speakers from Control Center rather than assuming the last-used output carried over
- If HDR video looks washed out or the color balance seems off in a specific app, try disabling Match Content under Settings, Video and Audio, then turning it back on
Slow Navigation and Remote Quirks
A sluggish home screen right after updating is common and usually temporary.
- Give the Apple TV 10 to 15 minutes after the update to finish rebuilding its content cache before judging performance
- If the Apple TV powers back on by itself after you turn it off with the remote, check your TV’s HDMI-CEC setting, sometimes labeled Consumer Electronics Control, and turn it off if the behavior continues
- A full restart from Settings, System, Restart clears most lingering navigation lag that a simple wake from sleep does not
tvOS 27 also drops support for the Apple TV HD and the first-generation Apple TV 4K, both of which shipped with the older Siri Remote, so either model needs to stay on its last supported tvOS version.
