An iPhone Duo touch screen not working, or reacting when nobody is touching it, usually has a cause you can test in a few minutes. The phone has two separate displays, so the first job is to find out whether the problem sits on the 7.6-inch inner display, the 5.4-inch outer display or both.
Apple has said a small number of units have an inner display issue, and owners have reported iPhone Duo screen problems since launch. If your touch problem comes with a crack, a bright line or a crunch when you unfold the phone, skip ahead to the last section.
iPhone Duo Touch Screen Not Working Often Clears With a Restart and a Clean
These four steps are the usual fixes for a screen that is too sensitive or responds only some of the time, so test the iPhone Duo after each one to see which one worked.
- Restart the iPhone Duo, or force restart it if the screen will not respond at all.
- Make sure the screen is clean and free of debris or water, on both the inner and outer displays.
- Disconnect any USB-C accessories, and if touch works once one is unplugged, try a different socket, cable or charger with it.
- Remove any case or screen protector for the iPhone Duo, then test the phone bare.
Update iOS and Test the Outer Display to Narrow Down the Fault
Open Settings, tap General, then tap Software Update and install the latest update, such as iOS 27.2.
Then close the phone and use the outer display for a few minutes. If touch works normally there and misbehaves only on the inner display, the problem is tied to the inner display and not to iOS, a single app or an accessory.
A Crunch, Bright Line or Crack Means Stop Using the Inner Display
If the hinge crunches, stiffens at one angle or a line appears across the inner display, keep the phone closed and use the outer display. Back it up while touch still works, following our cracked display steps, and then book a visit at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider rather than forcing the phone open.
Apple told owners with the issue to contact AppleCare for a replacement. Repairs outside Apple or an Authorized Service Provider are not covered by the warranty or AppleCare+, so do not peel the cover layer or try a repair yourself.
If none of the steps above brings touch back, book service. Apple’s estimated US repair fees put the inner display at $999 without AppleCare+ and $99 with it.
