Apple has released iOS 26.5.2 and iPadOS 26.5.2, bringing security fixes to the full range of iOS 26-compatible iPhones and iPads. The update is a minor point release, but it matters more than its version number suggests, because its predecessor skipped most devices entirely.

The previous release, iOS 26.5.1, was a narrow fix targeting a wired-charging bug that affected only the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air. That left every other supported iPhone and iPad waiting for a broader security update and iOS 26.5.2 fills that gap. Apple has not yet published a detailed CVE list, but the update is described as containing bug fixes and security patches.
Where iOS 26.5.2 fits in the iOS 26 timeline
iOS 26.5 itself was a substantial update that patched more than 50 security vulnerabilities alongside a handful of new features, including end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging, a Pride Luminance wallpaper, and Suggested Places in Maps. The 26.5.x branch since then has been in maintenance mode, with Apple pushing targeted fixes while its engineering teams work on what comes next.
In parallel, iOS 26.6 beta 2 has been seeded to testers, with the third beta released today, and early builds have not introduced any significant new features. iOS 27, announced at WWDC 2026, is in developer beta and represents the next major release, bringing a more capable version of Siri alongside design refinements and performance improvements. For most users, the 26.5.x updates are the stable branch Apple is actively maintaining right now, and keeping up with them is straightforward.
macOS Tahoe 26.5.2 is also releasing alongside iOS 26.5.2, which lines up with how Apple typically coordinates security patches across platforms. If you are running a Mac on Tahoe 26.5.1, the same prompt to update applies there.
How to install iOS 26.5.2
To install on iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, then General, then Software Update. The update should appear automatically. Given that the previous point release covered only a narrow slice of devices, iOS 26.5.2 is the security update that most iOS 26 users have not yet received in the 26.5.x cycle.
With iOS 26.6 still in beta and iOS 27 months away from a finalrelease, users on the stable branch have no meaningful reason to wait. Apple running three software tracks simultaneously, covering 26.5.x maintenance, 26.6 beta, and 27 developer beta, reflects how much is in motion heading into the second half of 2026. For everyday iPhone and iPad users, iOS 26.5.2 is the current version to be on.
