Apple is reportedly planning a new upgrade for Genmoji in iOS 27 that could make the Apple Intelligence feature far more visible inside the iPhone keyboard. According to recent reports, the upcoming software update will introduce Suggested Genmoji, a feature that automatically creates Genmoji recommendations based on your Photos library and commonly typed phrases.

Genmoji first launched as part of Apple Intelligence in 2024, letting users create custom emoji-style images with text prompts. While the feature attracted attention during Apple’s keynote demos, real-world adoption has been mixed. Early versions often generated awkward results, and many users simply forgot the feature existed after trying it once or twice.
The new Suggested Genmoji feature reportedly works similarly to existing emoji suggestions in the iPhone keyboard. As you type in Messages or other apps, iOS 27 could surface AI-generated Genmoji recommendations based on phrases you frequently use, combined with people, pets, or objects detected in your Photos library.
For example, typing a recurring phrase or mentioning a friend could trigger a matching custom Genmoji suggestion automatically. Apple is also expected to keep the feature optional through a keyboard setting labeled “Suggested Genmoji are created from your photos and your commonly typed phrases.”
Apple has steadily improved Genmoji since its debut. In iOS 26, the company expanded customization options with adjustable facial expressions, hairstyles, glasses, hats, and emoji combinations. Apple also improved image quality and generation speed while adding support for Genmoji Tapback reactions in Messages.

The iOS 27 update appears aimed at making Genmoji easier to discover and use during everyday conversations. Instead of requiring users to manually create custom emoji, the feature could appear naturally while typing in the same way predictive text and emoji suggestions already work today.
Apple is expected to officially unveil iOS 27 and its new Apple Intelligence features during WWDC 2026 in June.
