The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone Pro Max are set to arrive to customers on September 16. However, some people already have the new iPhones ahead of their scheduled launch. That’s how we now have the first iPhone 14 Pro Max teardown video, giving us a closer look at all the changes between the internals of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and last year’s iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The first iPhone 14 Pro Max teardown shows notable differences compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max
The first iPhone 14 Pro Max shared was shared by YouTuber PBKreviews, and it gives us a closer look at what’s inside the iPhone. Since the iPhone 14 Pro Max looks the same as the iPhone 13 Pro Max from the outside, barring a few changes like the new Dynamic Island and the slightly larger camera bumps.
As for the initial look at the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s teardown, the arrangement of the components looks almost identical to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The L-shaped battery and the Bionic chip are still in the same place. The new A16 Bionic chip in the iPhone 14 Pro is covered by a new logic board which is a metal plate with graphite pads. The improved thermal system will help this year’s lineup performance better.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max teardown also revealed that the iPhone has an internal battery with a capacity of 4,323 mAh. Although the battery capacity of the 14 Pro Max is smaller than the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s capacity of 4,352 mAh, the battery life of the new Pro Max is expected to last longer thanks to the new A16 Bionic chip. This year’s A16 Bionic chip is built on TSMC’s 4nm process.
One major difference between this year’s Pro models and the iPhone 13 Pro models is the TrueDepth camera. The TrueDepth camera houses the components required for Face ID as well as the front-facing camera. Apple shifted that sensor underneath the display for this year’s Pro models to account for the smaller notch.
Adding on to this, the new TrueDepth component is also smaller. Other tidbits include the lack of a physical SIM and a larger sensor for the new 48MP wide lens.
