You may hear iPhone Duo coil whine, a faint high-pitched noise, whenever you swipe up from the Home Screen bar. One owner says the noise stopped after he switched from glass-style icons to standard icons.
The owner who first reported it on Reddit heard the noise on his own iPhone Duo, on three units that belong to friends and colleagues, and on several display units in stores. The fix is a Home Screen setting in iOS 27, so you can try it on your own phone in a few taps.
iPhone Duo Coil Whine Showed Up on Every Unit Tested
The noise is faint, but it is easy to hear when your ear is close to the iPhone Duo. You can hear it from the 7.6-inch inner display and from the back of the phone when it is folded, and it sounds like it comes from the area around the chip.
The iPhone Duo runs on the A20 Pro chip, and coil whine is a high-pitched sound that electronic parts such as processors can make while they work. Not everyone hears it, since the first owner’s brother could not hear it on the same unit.

Switching From Glass Icons to Standard Icons Stopped the Noise
A second owner who hears the same noise asked whether the first owner uses glass icons on the Home Screen. He does, and the noise stopped after he switched to standard icons. The second owner points to the Liquid Glass look as the cause and says the whine can still show up now and then with standard icons.
If your Home Screen uses the translucent Clear style, which gives you Liquid Glass icons and widgets, follow these steps to go back to the standard icons on your iPhone Duo.
- Touch and hold the Home Screen background until the icons start to jiggle.
- Tap Edit, then choose Customize.
- Pick Automatic, Light or Dark in place of Clear.
- Listen again with your ear close to the phone, both with the iPhone Duo open and with it folded, to see whether the noise has stopped.
Automatic switches your icons between the light and dark looks along with the appearance of your iPhone Duo, while Light and Dark keep one look all day. The Customize menu changes the look of both your icons and your widgets, and you can go back to Clear with the same steps.
The Clear icons can also be buggy on other iPhone and iPad models as well so if you notice any glitches or frame rate drops, disabling them should be the first step when diagnosing an issue.
