Apple Releases iPhone Duo Repair Manual with 22 Procedures

Apple has published the repair manual for the iPhone Duo, the same day the foldable went on sale. It covers 22 procedures, from replacing the cover layer to swapping the logic board.

The iPhone Duo Repair Manual went live on Apple’s support site on October 23 under manual ID FPZKLK. It comes with 16 troubleshooting pages and separate guides for battery safety and broken glass safety.

The Manual Covers 22 iPhone Duo Procedures, Including Both Batteries

Twenty of the 22 are component replacements. The other two are a First Steps guide and an operating manual for the heated display removal fixture, the tool that softens adhesive so the display can be separated from the enclosure.

The component guides fall into five areas:

  • Displays and glass: cover layer, outer display, inner display, inner display assembly and back glass
  • Cameras: rear camera, FaceTime camera and outer front camera
  • Power and boards: Battery 1, Battery 2, logic board, input/output board and USB-C connector
  • Audio and haptics: top speaker, bottom speaker, main microphone and Taptic Engine
  • Frame and buttons: enclosure, volume buttons and Touch ID/camera control buttons

The two battery guides match a foldable that splits its capacity across two cells, one in each half. Each one has its own procedure.

The cover layer also gets a dedicated guide, which fits the earlier confirmation that the nano-texture layer above the inner display can be replaced. Apple charges $49 for that repair without AppleCare+, compared with $999 for the inner display.

Damage From Repairs Done Outside Apple’s Network Is Not Covered by Warranty or AppleCare

The manual is written for technicians who already repair electronics, and it tells readers to go through the whole thing before starting. Damage caused by repairs done outside Apple or its Authorized Service Provider network is not covered by the product warranty or AppleCare plans. It can also make the phone ineligible for future repairs by Apple.

Apple’s iPhone tool list includes a heated display removal fixture, a display press and a battery press, which apply controlled heat and pressure to the adhesive.

Repair Assistant and System Configuration are Apple’s post-repair software tools. They handle steps like transferring factory calibration values and linking biometric parts to the Secure Enclave, and System Configuration is required at the end of every logic board repair.

The Troubleshooting Pages Include Hinge Issues and Touch ID

Before any parts come out, the manual walks through 16 troubleshooting pages. Display and multi-touch, camera, cellular, Touch ID, Taptic Engine and haptic feedback each get their own page, and Apple Pencil Issues is listed too.

Hinge Issues has its own page, and owners have reported cracked inner screens at the hinge.

Buyers enter manual ID FPZKLK at checkout in the Self Service Repair Store to confirm they have read the manual, and Apple’s repair documentation says genuine parts become available shortly after a product’s release..
